I just spoke to my cousin in Wilmington, NC. She says in her area there are fig trees everywhere and that she would talk to a friend of hers who grows them to see if she could track me down some cuttings or plants to send back. She said she also has another friend who grows enough to share in her yard. I would be happy with a couple twigs, but knowing her she'll drive all over the place trying to find more. If she goes too crazy, then maybe I'll have some to share ;)

If she can get history behind the figs and/or a name that really makes the plant special to grow and talk about, esp if it was brought over by immigrants.

Thank you greg,
I asked her to try to get names or at least where it cam from. I hope I get some info
I have to laugh, because knowing her like I do... I wouldn't be surprised if she drives around knocking on people's doors. So, as a thank you I'm working on a painting for her. She's always posting amazing pics of the beach. So I'm going to take one of her pics and paint it

For rooting, I'm going to try the bag method since I've never rooted figs before. From what I've seen, many must use it.
I'm going to have my students help me out. They'll love seeing the roots form.
Thanks all,
Chris

That's very exciting. I hope to hear how she does.  Isn't it amazing how many people become our fig scouts (enablers.)  LOL

See if you can have her take some pictures with the fruit.  They will be helpful in identifying the varieties.
