Fast growing brebas

These are now growing very fast.
A rainy winter followed by a mild and promising spring are helping these brebas to gain size and weight very rapidly and, may be, ripening the first fruits still in May.

Francisco, Great pictures as usual. I will be looking forward to seeing your ripe fig pictures.

Nice photos Francisco.  Lampeira Preta looks like a very productive tree for brebas.

francisco,

you have all the best figs.. :)

francisco, grandes frutos!

I was at the Algarve region ( Albufeira) as a teenager...i loved it there!

Beautiful and strong looking brebas and fig trees! Thanks for the photos.

Always enjoy your pictures and look forward to seeing these when ripe as well.

WOW your trees are great. How long have you had them? Are you in a warm location?

Nice to live in a very fig-friendly place.

Great figs and photos Francisco.  Wish we had your climate and your fig varieties.

Silly question but I notice many of the Portuguese figs are preto or branca (black or white) similar in Italy (nero or bianco).
But sometimes figs are named as masculine and sometimes as feminine.  i.e.   one  fig is preto another preta (both mean black)?

When is a fig male and when is it female?

They look so good!

Thank you dear fellow members for your comments and time spent seeing these figs
I promise to keep giving news as they age along the coming weeks.

Last season I said on some occasions... 'this is an exceptional year'...
Let me tell you that now I will probably say that the present season are 'peut-être' even more exceptional. ?! - if weather keeps going fine..
The barometers are, in general, the Black Lampeira and the Caprifig. There are loads of them !

Joe, Lampeira is prolific for brebas but it's even more for 'Vindimos' which is the popular name for the second (main ) crop. Always abundant and very flavored/sweet.

Feigenbaum, Aim not too far from Albufeira..the Paradise for figs and ´great caldeiradas'

nd, Yes I am (10+) in Southern Portugal ,, these trees are over 10 year

pino , good point ! As you say many people just say preto (black) or branco (white) and do not care much about varieties

Fruit 'fig' - figo is masculine  (all together no differentiation for figs and brebas--All are  figs)

Tree - figueira is feminine like a good deal of fruit trees

Lampeira Brebas - 'figo lampo'
Lampeira main crop - 'figo vindimo' -also used to qualify all Summer/Autumn figs
