feeding time

What to feed the figs.

In late late winter as i turn my compost for the last time before spring i add compost to my plants.

I have been thinking of blood meal and bone meal but have never used it.

what would fellow member recomend?

My garden i put sheep manure and blood and bone meal in.  I do this about 30 days before planting up to the day before planting and always in the fall as well.  I usually use about 2 kilos of blood meal and 2 kilos of  bone meal and the garden space is about 22' x 35'  I also use about a half ton of manure each time.  I just spread it over the garden as even as I can get it and turn it once or twice.  The blood and bone meal are slow release fertilizers so they will not give immediate effects but with this practice I am not adding any fertilizer to tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, melons, onions, only to garlic.

I add bone meal and blood meal to my roses and figs in the spring.  The bone meal is very high in phospherous and promotes great root growth.  If  you have never tried in on roses, I highly recommend.  I put about two handfulls around each roses after pulling back the mulch about 4 inches from the base of the plant out to the edge of the follage drip line.  Light water it in and put more mulch.  Be careful if you have dogs as the blood meal will likely encourage digging around the plants.  It will not hurt, just be an annoyance to you.
