Apnoist
I think, from its name spelling, this fig seems to be from a north African country with a French colonial past.
I hope it is deep red inside and an early ripening one (whoever has it). I would like to have one someday with real green outside skin (even when ripe), deep red inside and somewhat early ripening.

Hi Akram,

I think you are right.
Djmel could mean de mel.
Baud has it.
thx

Mike,

It is also spelled Ferqouch Jmel. Jamel means Camel in Arabic, but not sure what Farqouch means.
This is a Morrocan variety. You can see a list of Moroccan figs at this link..

Bass,

Good news, thx.
It is supposed to be a very tasty fig.
I have to find out if it needs the wasp.

it looks like a verte to me.

Akram, verte stays completely green and has a deep red delicious interior...In fact they have called it "hunters deception" for the fact that it looks unripe (green) and firm yet is perfectly ripe.

Not sure how it would ripen in zone 5 a considering I only had my first pickings around 2nd or 3rd week of Sept and I ate my last one on October 29th or something.  Greenhouse in last stage of ripening, 6a.

That is a good news Nass because I believe I have a Vert which was rooted in the spring of 2010. I say "I believe I have" because it keeps on appearing and disappearing on me in the pack of small plants. I will pay more attention to it now and move it to a place of honour in more Sunny spot next summer.

Have a peek

I am quite sure that Fergouch Djmel is not a synonym for Verde, but an own variety.

Referring to apnoist's post #1 fruit picture

and the one shown [E: with similar name (sp?)] in the
Morroccan figs site mentioned by Bass
(how do you manage to find all these fig details!?!);
to me, there is a significant inconsistency
with both the shape and skin-color of the fruit...

Is this another-because of a micro-climate difference???

[I do have a" Verte" fig (SSE-LA MC R 06); non-flatish-shape/green-skin/red-pulp]

Gorgi, I agree.

The one I posted is from Pierre Baud, and it is a big fig.
