Fertile Mission Seeds?

Hello, fig growers.
I've been recently experimenting with growing fig trees from seed and I decided to try sink-testing some black mission seeds I got out of some dried fruit. After leaving them overnight, I found that a lot of the seeds sank.
I'm curious because black missions are persistent and they aren't commonly pollinated. Would this mean they're pollinated? Or did they somehow cheat the sink test?

Thanks for any info.

Hi,
Long story short: Lots of figs have viable seeds pollinated or not .
check my topic on fig pollination myth kill.

So yes, you'll get "weeds" growing if you plant those seeds. BUT it will take a long time for you to see fruits - and they may not be edible or may not taste good.
So do it for fun. If you're looking to eat figs, using available strains is the best path to walk .

The dried BM figs that you buy in a store most likely come from California, they ARE pollinated

jdsfrance & greenfig: Thanks a lot for your advice. I'm hoping to do this mostly for fun and see if I get a good fig tree. If I don't get a good-tasting fig, I can always use it for bonsai if it's a vigorous enough tree.
