Fertilizers and Fertilizing Schedule - Your Insight, Please

What fertilizers and fertilizing schedule do you recommend for the newborn fig trees in their first year and thereafter? Are there any organic alternatives?
Please share your insight.

Thank you.
Vickie.

Vickie,
With small trees (1 gallon, up to 5 gallon) I use Miracle Gro at 1/2 strength, applied an hour or two after a thorough watering. A little fertilizer more often is better than a lot infrequently. You can also foliar feed them with MG every week or two. It may not be organic, but it works really well for small trees.

I use small release fertilizer that lasts for the whole growing season. I use a commercial brand, but you can use Osmocote with a high nitrogen. I add fertilizer in early spring or while repotting just mix it with soil.

as an organic alternative, people in Greece use traditionally sheep dung for in ground trees. here in Austria some use cow dung.
but not for pots.
freaks drain a hole in the soil, fill it with pellets and cover it with soil again. I would not do it anyhow:)

I use Dyamite Timed release fertilizer (15-15-15) with micronutrients.

Thanks everyone for your advice.
Moderator, I saw a photo of Vigoro Citrus and Avocado plant food in your introduction. Is this something you use for fertilizing figs?
Thanks.
Vickie.

Vickie,

Yes, but only on the in ground plants or plants in 15g containers. It has many minor minerals or trace minerals which are largely absent from out soils, here. I use it on everything (yes, everything) in late winter/early spring (once only) and try to time it just before bud-break.after that it is 16-16-16,

Moderator, thank you.
Please excuse my ignorance, but what do the 16-16-16 numbers mean?
Thank you.
Vickie.
