ferti-lome UPM

Just thought I'd say this; mixed 50/50 with perlite this stuff has been amazing compared with other mixes I've tried when moving cuttings from their plastic cups to 1 gallon containers. I can pick out the plants in ferti-lome from 25 feet away as they are just healthier looking. The shame of it is they do not sell this product in Virginia. Although the sample size isn't huge each group (3 so far) was at least 25 trees. I was lucky as Ferti-lome sent me (6) 8 quart bags for free to try, but now I'm stuck trying to find a replacement. Looking at Fafard #52 or #3B. Does anyone have any opinions on either of these mixes?

thanx

What was the exact product you used from them I'm trying to find it on there websight but there's lots of stuff

Ultimate Potting Mix mixed with coarse perlite 1 to 1.

Thanks im gonna go look for it now ...It says (no product found) directly on there sight

In my opinion, UPM is the best stuff around for transfering cuttings.  Some may disagree.  It's light, fluffy, has all the right bacteria....it's good stuff!  It gives cuttings monster roots!   I can't get it in my area so I ordered it 3yrs ago.  Today, it just cost too much to ship it.  I've used both UPM and FAFARD.  FAFARD is good too however, I prefer UPM.  If you use FAFARD, get the 3B, not 4Mix.  The 4MIX is cheaper, but also heavier due to excess vermuculite.

I called the company and they had their soil guy call me back. He talked me into using the #52. They thought it would be better than the 3B for use in 1 gallon pots. It's 30% peat, 55% pine bark, 10% perlite and 5% vermiculite. I told him I was going to mix it 1 to 1 with perlite and he thought this was the way to go. What the hell, I'll gamble on it as I have 25 cuttings ready to pot up.

Go for it!

Hey Dave that looks like it but when you put fertilome.com its not there ?? go figure you have to put soils at the end
