Fico Del Sol. aka " The Sun Fig "

Hi everyone.

Wanted to put out a BIG thanks to Martin .
Without his great skill at propagation and expert care, I would not have such a lovely plant.
He really deserves credit for a job done well with love.
As you may know, the parentage of the tree is the Jolly Tiger.
But to honor my mother that has put up with my Fig growing shenanigans, I have decided to rename it " Fico Del Sol. aka " The Sun Fig "

I fully understand renames don't  mean much and may add to confusion but I like the Italian flare it gives it.
She does too.

Have been protecting it from too much sun like a newborn baby, which I guess it is.

Will keep you updated on it's progress.

Beautiful plant take good care of that one
The name is good as long as if you trade or sell cuttings or plants you use the original name

I have to agree with Jim.

It is yours and you a free to name it what ever you please.
But as long as you present it in any fashion it would be best to first inform the person/people of the original name.

This is where all this fig naming confusion begins.

Very nice tree BTW. Take good care of it and it will take good care of you.

Good luck

Nick if that makes Mom happy then call it that for her.
I do agree if sold or traded it should retain its original given name but make your Mom happy after all its Mom right ? You know what i mean.   ; )

Post office sure banged that plant around and remember what i mention in email concerning your back and plant.

Martin- Quick question since I have forgotten.

Is this the only known fig with leaf variegation? It still amazes me that this fig was found just sitting in the middle of the forest in Japan.

Did they ( Asiatic Nursery) ever say to you if they thought this was a mutation of another type of fig tree?

I appreciate your input on this and especially taking the time to right it down for me.

That is such a beautiful plant!!

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement.

Never attempted to care for such a tiny plant before.
Feel like a nervous dad.

And I did not want to sound like such a " Mommy's Boy " before,
but I am growing nearly 20 Fig Trees directly above her dining room!
Got to keep her happy.

My dad doesn't care what I do.
He just gives me a " Where the hell did I go wrong ? look "
My Mother swears she knows When I get a new tree or plant.
She says she can smell them above her, and can smell a different one.
Neither one still have gone up to the roof so they have no idea just how many are
up there.

They also have no idea of the cost involved in buying some of those plants/trees.
They grew up on a farm in Italy, as did I until I was 16 ( Mola Di Bari )
And they believe they were all given to me.
In my town the plants/trees were never sold, only given away/traded.
If they ever found out what I have spent they would freak out.

As far as my remaining the tree " Fico Del Sol "
My first choice was " Spotty Giovanna "
She didn't care for that so much....
Wonder why?

Well Mola di Bari ???
My Dad was from there.
His family came here on the Conte di Savioa to New York so many years ago.
His dad handcrafted 5 of those ships one for each of his 5 sons at the time in Brooklyn in rememberance of voyage.
I have one of those.

My friendly advice to you now
Start looking for greenhouse for roof and way to secure it not to blow off roof , get heater with thermostat to keep at certain temperature.

Your going to need it for sure.
Trust me.

They will come to you the old fashion way just like your parents say things were done back home with the exception its a one way trade you receieve i send.
Hope you and family like dark figs.

Its one way alright AFTER a certain large transaction!!!!!!

It is nothing to me but you make it sound kinda like a gift Martin (it was far from that)

You cant sheet an old sheeter!
