Ficus racemosa

It's an edible fig growing in Southeast Asia. The figs are usually cooked with curry. Interesting growth habit.

Really cool pictures. I've never seen that before. They are in the same family as Eucalyptus and Guavas, however, not figs.

Looks like a Sycamore fig.

I was looking at these last year -- you can buy them on ebay.  Thought about it, but realized it was an "impulse buy" thought, and decided to stick with Ficus Carica.  It really is interesting the way the figs cluster on and near the trunk though.

Have you ever tasted these, Bass?

Spring is coming...

I love your photos.

Gina, here we call them jaboticaba.  I got one from Quang Ong Nursery in San Diego and it is fruiting very well for me.  I need to keep my address a secret from Grasa as she loves them, she's said. ;)  Should do very well for you if you give it a try.

That is a very interesting looking tree while fruiting!   So unusual to us here in the US!

Re jaboticaba:  I'd love to try one - they are fascinating looking. Unfortunately with all the new figs, the 3 new persimmon trees going in, the existing avocados, citrus and apricot, plum and peach trees, and the 50 blueberry plants, ......there sadly isn't any room! Just today I was outside consolidating some blueberries to clear a new area for young figs in 5 gal pots.

Harvey, you are mean! just looking at their pictures, I remember that 'headache' from their strong smell when blossoming. I could smell them from far away when the wind carried that smell. There is nothing more incredible than their flowering.

Hi all,

This fig is local to southeast asia, we dont eat them fresh as the taste is not sweet enough and the ripe fruit (in dark red color) usually full of wasp inside.  I use the ripe fruit as a fishing bite for wild carp.  The ripe and dry fruit smell very nice and yes some people of us cooked with curry (beef curry).
