Fig "A-10-5" from Ken Love collection

Does anyone know anything about this fig?  I see it here in the Ken Love collection:

http://www.hawaiifruit.net/FIgsgrid/pages/a-10-5.htm

It looks like it's heavily infected by FMV, but the figs look great.... small, thin skin, dark, etc.

This is DFIC0164.5, Orchard position A-10-5. See Pix

This was one of several seedlings grown from seed (duh) that are in the USDA / UC Davis collection. I believe that they are the only accessions which were not cutting-grown, originally.

There is so much difference in the leaves shape on the same page for the same fig in the F4F page mentioned in Jon's post! One can't be sure if it could be just because of FMV.

I emailed Jon i think couple seasons ago about the A-10-5 and few other types at the time, it perked my interest at the time . I think the others on page are of different strain or something but cannot recall what was said now.
Maybe he can say one way or another.

I love to get a hold of some cuttings.  Looks quite unusual.

A couple of years ago, I ordered DFIC0164 from UCD

The dot 5 has very interesting to me; fruit and (specially) leaves .

I got the DFIC0164.1 cuttings!
They  rooted with one spare and I shipped it to Jon (who else?).

Them all 0164 dot 1-10, being seedlings;
one wonders if they need any caprifiaction...

Looks like a very interesting possible "winner" to me, as far as my taste goes.  I appreciate the extra information!

Let me guess why you like this one.
Its picture you posted looks similar to the picture of Pastillier Unknown on F4F varietal page and you like that one too.

You know me too well, my friend.

Something about small, dark, thin-skinned figs makes my mouth water.

the unique leaves are icing on the cake for me.  there is nothing that would make me happier than a fig with attractive fruit, great flavor, good characteristics and it looks unique in the landscape.

i am sure there are other weirdos like me around here ;)

Hi I'm Little John and I'm a weirdo....Is this where the fig lovers 12 step meeting is held? haha

Little John, No, 12 step program meets here.

John would you know if this fig needs caprification.  Any info on taste characteristics.

I believe your seedling has similar characteristics to Ken Loves

George

I have a one-gallon DFIC0164-1 from last year's UCD cuttings, but from the little I've been able to read about it, the fruit is bland and uninspiring.

Hi Ken

It is believed that John and Ken Love had/have seedlings no 4 and 5, that are different from seedling no. 1, as shown by Johns link.  Be keen on those.

George

See Previous Thread.

See Pix.

See USDA Accession Data  Form received: Seed.

These are 10 seedlings from a tree in Albania, which are in WEO Orchard positions A-10-1 to A-10-10.

Some of the fruit are good, and some not. As you can see, the fruit are not all of the same color, either.

Caprification reqs are unknown, as everything at WEO must be assumed to have been caprified. If and when they fruit somewhere else, then we will have a better idea on this issue.

So John under DFIC0164, there are ten seedlings, DFIC0164.1 to DFIC0164.10?
Can you obtain all ten from UD repository, or certain seedlings?

George

You can have them all, as far as I know. You need to specify DFIC0164.1, .2, .3, etc. I have 3 or 4 of them growing right now.

I sampled the figs from accession DFIC01648 and was really good tasting black figs. You can see these photos on my site.

I'm assuming that it's one of these seedlings.

Bass

Do you remember which seedling it is.

DFIC0148.1 to DFIC0148.10
