Fig and Your Health

So, I love figs and the more I learn about them the more I'm fascinated. They are fun to grow and they are really good for your health. Here are a few fun facts I've picked up randomly.

Fig seeds contain Omega-3 fatty acids, good for your cardiovascular health.
Figs are high in fiber, good for you digestive system.
Figs are high in iron, good for the blood.
Figs, like all fruits and veggies, contain chemicals and enzymes that when eaten fresh and raw promote health and wellness.

Here is a video I found about cancer. Skip to around 11:30 for the good stuff. Everyone that eats their figs fresh off the tree, is getting the most nutrition and benefits.

Now that fruits and veggies are beginning to top most people's 'healthy foods' list, I expect figs to keep getting more popular. I think they have lagged because it's difficult to get good fresh one's in the store, and they can be somewhat of a challenge to grow in cold climates.

Thank goodness many people are finally moving beyond the 'apple/orange/banana' monopoly.
