Fig article - recipes

Saveur is one of my favorite sites!  Thanks for posting that awesome link!

Great recipes, thanks.

Have you fellow minks read Nigel Slater's "Fruit" with it's collection of wonderful, wonderful fig recipes? And other fruits...

Next block over from Katz's Deli on E. Houston Street, NYC is: Il Laboratorio del Gelato...a fancy, high-end, high-tech, yuppie joint that sells all flavors of Gelato.  It's the Starbuck's of the ice cream world... a Euro-trash, touristy, clip-joint in a fancy package, only without the burnt, lousy coffee.  Anyway, I tried the Mission Fig Gelato, and it was really a treat...seeds and all, with a rich figgy taste.  A perfect chaser for a Pastrami on Rye from Katz's Deli right across the street.  Ah...my New York City!  Zagat's gave it  4 rats.  : )

Frank, you're killing me with the mention of Katz's... Absolutely killing me!  If it were not for the time constraints of life, I would get on a plane just for a sandwich.

There is a gelateria in Philly who (several years ago) had a black mission (Fico Nero) gelato they were selling through Whole Foods.  It was my second favorite way to eat figs.  I don't know if it is still distributed by Whole Foods, but they have a list of places where to find it.  They had the mission fig gelato on today's list of flavors

Who doesn't like going to Katz's Deli?

We need to find that person and find out what is wrong with them....

If you visit New York City, reserve some time for a quick meal at Katz's Deli.  It is a "must" for anyone who wants a good nosh.  Also, reserve a date for by-pass surgery.

Forget Peter Luger's Steakhouse,, and the horse and buggy rides through Central Park...got to Katz's instead.  I have a provision in my will for burial with a Beef-Brisket on Rye.

I could just plotz thinking about it!

Frank

Many people are scared of the less traditional sandwich meats (Pastrami and Corned Beef included).  When you start throwing around words like horseradish and sauerkraut, they don't want any part of it.  To them I say, "Give me your sandwich!" :D
