Fig binge

I binged on a lot of figs today. I probably ate 25 or more. How many figs do you guys eat a day? I eat more than 10 everyday.

Haha not everyone is that lucky, I used to eat about 1/2 a fig daily in one week. The tree is 1 year old and few months now.
Share some pics on the varieties :)

right now I only get 1 or 2 per day. If I had enough I would probably eat 5-10 per day. With 6 young trees in ground (and 4 more to go in the spring), next year should allow for an occasional "fig binge" ;-)

Whatever is immediately available. I feel if you let them sit for more than 24 hours there is a good chance they could disappear.

Eating too many figs at one time may have the safe effect as when a horse eats a lot of oats.

The total 2014 breba crop from this tree was 738.

This was 8.6 oz. IMG_1227.JPG

Mari, what variety are those amazing figs? What zone are you in?
Can you give us more detailed pics, maybe the cut fruit, leaves, the tree itself (to see the growth habit) etc... :)

WOW!! I am at a complete loss for words, 738 on one tree with an 8.6 oz killer, I hope they taste good....or better!

738 brebas? Holy smokes. How old and how big is the tree?

If they were all that size, you're eating up to 10 lbs of figs a day. At that rate I would be producing fig paste soup if you know what I mean!

Is this a joke?  The whole thing seems so surreal...or, Photoshopped.

Why is it I can never find a fig tree that would give me figs the size of eggplants?  Please tell me these trees live in the Mid-East and require a special wasp....please!

...."Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's figs".....  Ooops!  Too late.  Broke another commandment.  (I've already worked my way through The "Seven Deadly Sins" , so I'm expanding my repertoire).

Frank

Not sure I'd eat more than 2 a day if all mine were that big!!! I trying to be less fig shaped so I have been keeping it to just a couple a day

The breba season was over 2 weeks ago. I'm eating main crops now. They are 2-3 oz. The average weight of breba crops was around 6.5 oz. That one was the largest. IMG_1233.jpg  IMG_1231.jpg  IMG_1234.jpg  IMG_1232.jpg
738 is true. I'm keeping half of them in the freezer. I'm in zone 9a. My grandma planted the tree. I guess it's 30-40 years old Brunswick, I'm not sure though. I have 10 varieties total. Brunswick breba is superb. It is rain tolerant and huge, very sweet tasting.
Main crop 2014 IMG_1226.jpg  IMG_1230.JPG It's far too sweet when fully ripe, so I pick early.

Thanks Mari, I never doubted your statements and the clarification was enlightening. Sometimes we make statements or accusations when we should be asking questions, it makes communication so much better. Congrats and keep on posting, I was really impressed.

Do you have the fig wasp where you are ?

Ok I will give you the benefit of the doubt now that you cleared that up. I'll even delete that post and answer your question.

During this time of the year I eat about as many as you do. I eat about a dozen small figs. I do have some larger figs that run 100 grams (lemon) but that's still only 3 1/2 ounces so I can eat a couple of those for breakfast. I have another member coming to visit today to try varieties he doesn't have and we'll have to see just how many he can eat.
I 'm going to try freezing this year as I don't have enough room to store all the preserves it would take in my ice box.
Nice looking figs, btw and huge. My Brunswicks are no where near that size.

Sas, I've never seen them.

Thanks for sharing I don't think I've seen anything to top that.

Wow that's a lot of fig :)
