I'm hoping to make fig ice cream for the Fig Fiesta, but due to a poor crop both for my dad [who lives 8 miles from Jon] and for me, I probably won't have enough [if any] figs for ice cream.
Could anyone [especially SD Area people] donate some figs for this? I plan on making a gallon of ice cream.
My dad will locate an electric ice cream maker [my family has only hand-crankers], but we're in need of some figs.
They can be any "fair/OK tasting" figs [a blend of varieties is fine], therefore I am surely not expecting anyone to give up their prized varieties to put into ice cream!
We've been making ice cream since I was a kid, and it's something we enjoy. [top picture, blackberry made from san diego grown berries; bottom picture, some of the batches we made during the second half of 2011....peach, mango, key lime, black currant, strawberry, etc....we've even made 'gelati di riso'...and my octogenarian parents are still involved in the process ]
I arrive in SD on Friday evening, and if possible would want to to get the figs then...because I'd make the ice cream mix the night before. Doing so allows the flavors more time to develop before the ice cream is made.
So, if anyone can donate some figs [I'll determine how much] to a good cause, please send me a private message. Thanks!
