Fig from Greece

This is from a fig that comes from a mountain location in Greece . The tree is atleast 100 years old and is from my great uncles property . It is the favorite of all my family members that grew up there .
I got it as cuttings last year and have a couple trees left after sharing . It has not fruited yet 1 small but fell of early . The fruit is supposedly brown and of good size .
Funky large leaves that sort of resemble my colle de dama blanc.

John

John, I can just imagine all the happiness this is bringing you and your family.

Could you add me to your cutting request list when you have some?

Is it a common-type?

Ruben , I am not sure if common or not , Will hopefully know next year .
Chris , it is definitely rewarding being able to grow my great Uncles tree and I also have my grandfathers tree which is even more amazing . And now I can spread it out to other family members here . My mom used to climb her dads tree and sit there eating figs as a kid . Now it's sitting on her porch .

Very cool that you have family history with these trees and very cool that now your mom has a young start of the very tree she loved as a child.

Nice to have a history with and memories from a tree. May it ever fill you!

Hi John,
From what part of Greece is it from?

 Peter

John I think it is wonderful that this tree is so special to your family - just the stories alone - but you have the tree as a legacy and now to pass on - how absolutely priceless!

Hey Peter ,
My moms family is from a village near the town of Astros on the east cost of peleponese .
Are you familiar with the area ?

Hi John,
I have never been to Astros, but I remember driving from Kalamata (were my father's family is from) to Athens. On the way we passed through central Arcadia. It was a beautiful area & very mountainous. I wish I had taken cuttings of the fig trees on the way :)

Count me in on the list of those who wish cuttings. When I went to Greece, and stood in that warm Agean Sea, and the warm wind blew, I did not want to go home! Would have stayed there forever, but I have kids and responsibilities, so that dream flew out the window. Love the Greek History too!

A Greek Fig could bring that dream back!
