First thing I want to thank Bass for this part

I was in a small Christian village called Saidnaya in Syria and I had the chance to taste there some wonderful figs!

so here are my comments in terms of taste







these first 3 pics are of a very sweet fig I tasted and I would give it a B+ in terms of taste






This second tree was interesting because it looked as if it was dead. It was growing next to the first tree (the one on top). However, this tree was alive but I am not sure why it had lost all the leafs. This tree had figs that were highly sweet and I can give it a good A++.




This picture shows the figs from the first two trees. The fig on top is from the tree that had leafs. Maybe the trees were the same but they are not in the same condition... (The figs from the second tree had a dried skin)

This tree was great and the figs were of a medium size. Good taste A-







the figs on this tree were big but they all seemed to split. Taste was ok but I was not able to eat a fully ripe one

Glad you got to visit this ancient town. I already have a fig from there called Barada. you may have came across it while there.

Bass: I noticed that in Saidnaya and in Damascus they were selling a small yellow fig. I have pics of a tree in Saidnaya that has these figs so this might be it...

I still have to post pics of 2 more fig trees in Saidnaya and then some from Turkey, Bulgaria and Serbia.

Italiangirl74: Thanks! Only one problem is that my HD video camera broke down! I have one video but I was not able to do all the videos I wanted. I might do a video by using the pictures and add some comments about fig cultivation that I found in the region.

Also, while I was in Saidnaya I noticed that they do not hang caprifigs in the orchards. Therefore, my conclusion is that the fig trees cultivated in Saidnaya do not require pollination in general.

Here's a fig that I have from Sidnaya. It's one of the best tasting figs I have, althought it's a small fig.
