Fig ID - one more time

I tried to ID this fig a while back without much luck. This is a better picture.  The cut open fig is blurry unfortunately, so I hope it's good enough.  It's a hardy tree, grown in Cleveland for several years.  Good sweet flavor.  I think it tastes great, but it's the only variety I've ever eaten, so I have nothing else to compare it to.  Thanks for any help!

It looks more like that fake "RdB" that was for sale on eBay. What about the leaves? Would you say it is honey flavored?

Lol.

No honey flavor, but more of a berry flavor.   The trees originate from my grandfather's garden in Cleveland AT LEAST from the early 80s.  He acquired them from a friend in the city.  No other history, unfortunately.  This is a young version of the tree:

It looks a lot like a honeyish fig

Somebody please figure this out!  I have one that is as identical as it gets, came from a tree in Gainesville, Florida in 2000, good fig by any name.

BTW-  I was told that it was an Afghani strain, ?????

dkirtexas:  It's been hard to narrow this one down.  When I think I find a match, a certain characteristic separates them, usually the flesh color.

The flesh color is a little more red than mine but we are also in different everythings, zones, soils, coastal vs inland, etc, etc.  I have never let mine ripen as much as yours, too good, LOL  I hope someone bags it to solve the mystery.  A man told me it was for sure an Afghani fig but that was all he said.

Who knows why he thought that.  I hate this part of figs.

If your figs are in fact identical to mine, let one ripen until the skin breaks like the pic shows.  So much more flavor and sweetness.  Thanks for your input!

Looks a whole lot like English Brown Turkey to me.....a lot like one of mine.

I agree, looks like Nelson's EBT also. But the breba of this tree is a mile long (no match) and the leaf is different enough...

Bayernfeige Violetta. Looks like Marius fig check it out

Dennis, Jason, Danny, Jennifer:
After a lot of googling, it looks similar to English BT, possibly Bayernfeige Violetta.  Thank you all SO much for help!  I have 12/24 cuttings that have taken root since 9/9 so far, with a strong chance the remaining 12 will root.  Now if I can keep them alive indoors during the winter, I'll have plenty to trade/share with an accurate name.  I will be getting at least 50 more cuttings this winter.  Again, much appreciated.

Frank,

Can you get a clearer pic of the pulp and one of the parent tree shape and leaf types?

Here is the tree:

This is a breba fig from a young 2 year old propagated tree:

These are the best leaf pics I have on-hand from my 2 year old propagated tree:

It's most probably EBT.  I knew it wasn't a classic Brown Turkey, but I was unaware that EBT had such a long skinny breba that looks strangely like Flanders.  The leaf is also same shape (generally) but has some jags around the outside.

Please see Nelson's pictures here and compare:  http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/show_single_post?pid=1270311503&postcount=20

Dennis (snaglpus) may be able to add some info.  See the picture of what appears to be main-crop fruit on this thread:

Looks like alma to me, at least the main crop.

Not like mine, mine is not teardrop at all, either crop.

Danny, not like your _____ ?  Several figs were mentioned prior, you didn't indicate which fig it's not like ;)

I think it looks like EBT too.  Or at least, it looks a lot like the unknown I had (I called it Frank's Fig at that time) that many folks on this forum id'd as EBT. The breba on mine were shaped a lot like this also.  Someone above said that breba shape didn't resemble breba for EBT, but whatever they are it looks like a match for the tree I have.  One question:  was the eye on those figs red for a long time, even before the figs began to ripen?  (i.e., while the fig was still green).  If so, then I'd say EBT.

Mike.  I hadn't paid attention to the color of the eye.  I'll be sure to watch it next season.
Thank you all for your input!  This forum is great.
