So far I've tried 9 different brands of fig jam and fig preserves. Most from the U.S., but one each from France, Lebanon, Turkey, and Italy. So far my favorite of the commercially available ones is Gia Russa, from Italy. Here in the northeast I find it at Tops supermarkets. Comes in a little square glass jar... pretty good on toast, or in a sandwich with almond butter or cashew butter.
I've found a couple that are also figs+walnuts (France) and figs+port wine (California).
For those you you interested in making your own preserves, Bass has some nice recipes on his Trees of Joy site,
http://www.treesofjoy.com . Even a couple of recipes involving rehydrating dried figs in milk, then putting in walnut pieces and roasting. I tried that... it's easy and tastes great (the kind of recipe I like :-)

edit: I had a misspelling above... it's Gia Russa (not Gia Rosa as I originally wrote)
