Fig Most likely to succeed next year

Obviously, rate of growth is no predictor of fruit quality, but I assume any varieties that can grow well in Tucson's hot sun and poor soil will also ripen well. So, of the 12 varieties of UCD cuttings that survived my fumbling efforts to get them rooted and established in pots, the two that have grown the largest are UCR135-15S (photo; 26.5 inches of new growth) and Tena (18 inches). Wimpiest was Black Madeira (photo) at only 3.5 inches, but it put out a lot of leaves and branches so I'm hoping that next year, in the ground, it will break out of its FMV-induced "dwarfism" and make some real progress.

TucsonKen, I like the idea of using a transparent milk jug as a pot. Its a cross between a 1 gal & 2 gal pot. Also, it gives me something
to do in winter. I am going to use it for rooted cuttings started next year. I can see the roots.

At any rate, the price is right!

Herman, any chance you are able to recollect as to what makes you confident that Nero 600m as a fig with good
potential and possibly better than VdB. I understand you only have 2 figs to enjoy. I rooted & potted one cutting
and was surprise at how fast & easy it rooted. I sourced this variant based on your initial comments. Thanks.

Hey George, in regard to your Guilbeau, I remember seeing a picture you had showing Guilbeau and Madeleine de Deux Saisons.  Can you post that picture again please of that fig?  I want to compare it to a fig that Dalton also has called Purple Passion.  I'm thinking they might be the same fig.  Also can you post the leaf pattern of your Guilbeau.  Dalton rant and raves about Purple Passion.

I know my Guilbeau French is not the same as your Guilbeau.  Dalton says they are not the same.  George, is yours sweet, very sweet or bland.  I think you and VS have the same Guilbeau.  I stressed my tree out too much last year and need to upsize its pot this year.

Jon, keep me posted on your Purple Passion.  I know you also have Guilbeau, grow it beside your Purple Passion and let me know your opinion of it.  Some members haven't heard too much about Purple Passion but if it turns out to be the same as Guilbeau, I't sure they will want it like many other prize cultivars.

Man, if a thread needs followup more than this one, I certainly don't know!
