Fig newbie, nice forum.

  • nef

Hello, and nice forum you have, been looking through the fig pictures. I want to try growing figs, they look really good hehe.

I have a pineapple plant thats growing (hopefully will give a fruit next year) and a peach tree that was here when I moved in(going to try to propagate it so I can have a few in pots for awhile)

oh yea and lots of wild onions in the backyard! Every time I mow the backyard all you can smell is onion.

On my list to grow are limes, and grapefruits but want to start with figs.

I have been looking through here and reading gardenweb, I wanted to ask you all if there were any other good forums to bookmark besides these two? Google doesn't show much.

I am also looking for cuttings for postage fee's for now if anyone has any or going to have any. I'm in south texas, zone 9.

Thank you.

Hi,  This is by far the best along with the fig forum at GardenWeb.  Jon really constructed a very good informative and educational site here.  Welcome,
ciao ciao,  Maggie

Hello, I am new to growing things as well. I have found this forum to be very helpful and informative, and also a potent timekiller in certain instances. As far as figs, they are easily among my very favorite fruits when perfectly ripe (thanks Jon for curing me of an unripe fig addiction), so I just had to grow them myself. Since I live in a coastal climate that is a bit cooler than what figs are native to, what I did was go with a couple great varieties (Celeste, Adriatic) that are proven to do well in my area, and I also got a couple more exciting varieties (Black Madeira, Zidi) whose performance is largely unknown here.

Good luck
