It looks like a fig tree. Does it have white sap?

It could be mulberry seedling.

I just googled to see a picture of a mulberry and they do look similar.

Mulberries also have white latex sap.

So back to square one one lol.Anybody??

Fig trees have a smell like cat pee. Does it smell like cat pee :)

My Panache has an odor that I wouldn't quite call cat pee, smells pretty nice. My VdB is barely scented though.

There is a separate thread about figs and cat pee odor and I think it depends on variety. I noticed that the cat pee smell is much stronger during the active growth period. Later in the season it tends to blend into a more pleasant earthy-figgy smell.

I think the consensus is that odor and latex wouldn't be unique to figs. Perhaps it is best to wait and see if it produces anything.

In a few weeks you'll be able to tell if it starts putting out berries.

If it walks like a fig, and talks like a fig....

Take a clise up pictures of the branch where the nodes are.

I vote mulberry.

Ok, ill do that, guess well just wait and see,

I am frustrated... I keep reading about the cat pee smell and have been trying to confirm it on my own but simply haven't caught any of my figs peeing yet so that I could smell the pee and see if it smells like cat pee... do folks have a recommended time of day during which one might hope to capture some of this fig pee for sampling?

My cuttings are under lights in the basement.  They must pee at night, when the lights are off, because I've never caught them in the act.  But there is a definite smell that hits me as I go down there.  I wouldn't call it cat pee -- I actually like it.

Boxwood seems more like cat pee to me.

Be careful what you wish for Tony. I've noticed the smell in my hall bathroom that has the tub full of up-potted figs. But, well it is a bathroom... :-) Also smell it a bit in the dining room where the table has been taken over by up-potted figs. Much wider open area so only faint scent.

...Now wait a minute! Is this hijacking a thread?? 😉

Ok, I vote mulberry...but really have no clue

this is a male Mulberry tree. (i think)
its been seen in several forums called "Mystery Mulberry"
because no one could figure out what it was.

Or, my 2nd guess is Morus Australis,
or a hybrid between Morus Australis and Alba
http://www.biologie.uni-ulm.de/systax/dendrologie/morusauslv.htm

These lobes are deeper than most mulberry.
and While Morus Alba (white mulberry)
has very variable leaves, none are usually this deeply lobed.
or, if 1 or 2 are, the rest of the tree is not.

i have 3 plants i have collected over the years
heres 1

[mulb-tri-lobed]

Thanks greenman62 mystery solved :)

 mulberry

dig a little and see the main roots, the mulberry roots are of red or yellow skin, very strong and deep.
while fig tree roots are relatively weak.
