fig orchard

I do like dried figs! No problem with my teeth (yet).
Butt one needs to be careful how many being eaten, else
some unpleasant affects may happen from the other end!

I see some of the posters do not care for dry figs.
Its true the store bought ones or at least the ones i have boiught are not real good  to my taste buds, but the few i have dried off my HC and Sals were wonderful.

Warrior i grow most mine in tree form in my pots , yes your right- trim the horizontal branches and it will keep growing , what i watch is the plant though as if not carful a fast growing one will be like a whip if the sides are cut too soon and also some are just very slow to grow it depends on the type of plant but in the end it will take on a tree form if pruned properly.

This is called in Mallorca the Royal framework.
The trees in this orchard are planting at 13 x 13 meters to maintain the correct development of roots. So they don't fight for moisture and nutrients.
This also makes
planting density does not prevent the movement of
air, and not hinder the passage of sunlight and
necessary machinery for farming.

Take the dry figs and put some in a bowl and pour boiling water over them and let them sit for a few hours and then eat them.
They will be nice and plump and very sweet.

This is a sure way to eat pseudo-fresh figs in your Zone 4 unless you have a greenhouse.

I do it at work all the time.
I take two or three and put hot water on them,
and voila, sort of fresh figs.
Better than dry, but not as good as fresh!

Mmm. Hubby and I just ate the last of the figs I dried to try out the new dehydrator this summer. Not as good as fresh but still nice in winter, especially the crunch of seeds and the very faint hint of licorice. It's a promise of next year's bounty (or in my case, however long it takes to go from cuttings to fruiting potted trees - sigh!)

That orchard is beautifully organized love that. Me personally I think dried figs are inferior in everyway and dont really like them. However a friend of the family brought us some freshly dried figs from the Algarve region in portugal this Christmas and I actually like them I had about 7 of them they were moist and very sweet I usually dont get past the first bite lol.
