FIG PANACHE

Good morning All,
I am considering buying The Fig Panache.
Has anyone ever tasted it at all?
Such a striking plant to look at.............

lot of good report on that one. some say it's worth growing, others ssy the skin is rubbery and tough. all agree that the taste is good. i have small one growing right now. will find out in next 2-3 yrs.

Taste is great, but will spilt in high humidity and rain, thick skin like pete said, very excellent too if you dry it.

Here near Chicago it does not seem to do well as like some say skin can be rubbery with open eye that can invite bugs.
Perhaps in hot drier climate it does well .
It does make a unique looking fig otherwise.

My Tiger Panachee is thriving in the hot desert. We have temps over 109 and its in full sun and loves it! Mine turn out great, I suppose from the high heat and long summers.

Wow...............I will have to come to the desert then to try this beautiful fig........
From what you say Howie,It will not do too well here in London,UK.

Lisa, this is one of my favorites so far.  The skin is a little tough, but not too bad.  It is the only fig out of maybe 18 that the birds did not bother at all last year.  I joked that the stripes confused them.  Flavor is excellent.  My area near Sacramento, California experiences warm/hot summer days and cool evenings with low humidity and seldom sees rain May through September.  Here is a photo I posted in another thread the other day, mine is a strong vigorous grower and did not have any trouble with recent high temperatures of 105F on June 7th and 109F on June 8th.

Great flavor. Needs longer season and a lot of heat.

I picked my first last year on July 23rd, I think.  Maybe if Jon pulls off the Fig Fest on a date I can make it I can bring a basket of them to be auctioned off for the foundation. ;)

Because of our often miserable damp ,chilly weather here,I now grow under glass
a peach tree 'Peregrine'......so I will definitely get peaches this year.So that is where I will plant Panache.....all the pppppppppppppppps house me thinks.

Liza, I think you need to spend more time on your farm in Portugal! :)

No fun on my own Harvey............

If I had the time to spare from my farm, I'd love to go for sure.

Liza, I think you will be wasting your money for a tree like Panachee. It does need a lot of heat.

My Panache ripened figs in my grow room.  If you have limited space you'd be better off with other varieties but it is possible to get figs.

I've got four first years growing from Jon's cuttings this year.  They're growing faster than all of the other first years but the leaf color is kind of pale.
