Fig Paradise Midwest Style

Rafed briefly alluded to Mich maybe is climate for good figs in another thread i think when he was talking about a white fig called peters honey i think.

Well actually Rafed your right but many do not realize it , and here is proof cause our climates mirror each other.

Grown in containers im talking about here.

spring can be finicky but doing fig shuffle give them boost .
Summers are constant
Fall no ruining rains to speak off.
and
Best of all they ripen in normal fashion and develop taste and then go dormant and snore very well - i can hear them .

Years ago it was said <<cough cough Jon>> that some figs will do better in Jon's Paradise and taste better and not well here cause there Long season figs such as Black Madeira and Panache.

That holds true inground but not in containers that gives them all they need including Paradise heat !

Rafed we show in pictures this later this season what we can do with long season figs.  ; )

Oh i already have lots of pictures but many more to come.  ; )

Martin,

Your pictures did not post.

Here is madeira tree in 2011 Feb. coming back after dyeing to soil level previous year showing breba which i took off in this dated picture.

Here is madeira tree in 2011 Aug.  that i let grow wild to get back limbs showing fruit but they came late cause of above circumstance and i had 2 ripe figs others i left on to let tree do its thing.

Showing those 2 madeira figs.

Finally this year tree which i topped off the main to get some girth on it i can always let grow taller next season if i choose.

Tree grows slower than my others and this season the figs appeared earlier than last which i had hoped for as it adjust its crop as it slowly matures.

Panache - similar main figs came on earlier this season as well.
Here you can see the figs , one main branch on left is all reverse, the right main branch is variegated.

Martin,

they look amazing.

I can't wait till my BM puts out fig. Well... they are putting out fig already... But the plants at too young for them.

beautiful pictures martin, good luck with them. Like everyone else I can't wait till my own trees get to that stage..... ANTICIPATION!!!

Martin:

Amen Fig brother!  Now.... my grass is dead but do I care?  No!  Why?  You can't eat grass.

My figs seem to love this climate in the pots.  I've got them all on 1/2 gph drip 45 minutes a day/twice a day.  Contstant liquid feed @ 100 ppm N.   My Celestial and Black Jack each have about 50-75 figs on them.  3 years old in a 20" pot.  The plants are thick.  Leaves like leather.

Hardy Chicago in ground is more bush like, but has 40-50 figs on it.  I hand water once per week with feed only when I feel like it.
