Fig Plants

I was wondering where I can buy a few plants of the Bourjosotte Gris and Smith varieties. I searched online and even on eBay and no one has that variety. Please help...thanks!

Just Fruit and Exotics has Smith in Florida. You need to call them and put your name on the list for Smith as they sell out fast!

I have a small Bourjosotte Gris, in ground.  Maybe next winter, I might be able to take a cutting or two.  We will see how summer goes.  What do you have to trade?

We might be able to help you more effectively if we knew where you live.

@doc_champa, Bob C is right...
The Bourjassot Grise' requires cooler climate (the label will say Ideal for London). Although I have rooted one this year and it's doing great in one gallon, I hear they drop the fruit because of hot weather... this remains to be seen, good thing Suzi has one too, we can compare and see if that claim/suggestion has any truth to it...

Thanks everyone! I'm sorry I didn't mention where I was from. I currently live in northern Cali...(Chico to be exact). Currently my family participates in our local farmer's market and we grow different kinds of veggies and berries (strawberries, blackberries and raspberries). I would like to add figs to our list...so I'm thinking of trying out some fig plants this year (so unfortunately I don't have anything to trade?). I would like to grow at least 3 different varieties (dark/purple and green/white flesh) that are juicy and sweet w/great flavor. Has anyone tried Bayernfiege Violetta?

Hi dok, I think you should consider skin thickness since you will be taking them to market. A thick skin will allow you to ripen the figs well without risking damage while picking and transport, it should also give some protection from the spotted wing drosophilia. But you should also consider appearance, taste, productivity and ripening time.

What time of year is best at your local market? Here it is July and August but I imagine the season is extended there.

Hi,
I just acquired a Bourjosotte Gris cutting. I am interested to see how well it performs here in Chicago.
