Which of that variety pack is this one? I know you said there were 7. I keep seeing a  pack on e Bay of 250- 10 varieties. I still have my Patlican and Green fig cutting growing well so I may wait to see if they are viable w/o the wasp first.

you have to get the 250 seed pack to get the Balca. Should still be on ebay.

I also purchased my Patlican cuttings from him but unfortunately all of mine died and the ones I gave away survived lol oh well.

Its funny same thing pretty much happened to me. I bought the green fig as well-possibly Beyaz Orak? I have one of each. I know Herman keeps saying that they all need a fig wasp  from that area but I'd rather see for myself. What's the worst thing hat can happen- lost tree.

Beyaz Orak should not need caprification. Turkey does not have too many common figs listed but they do have some. They also have quite a few san Pedro types that will produce a breba crop without caprification.  Hard part is making sure we get the right one's. Patlican should also be a common type.

Well we'll find out. Hopefully the growth will explode next year.

Now, I'm wondering if we did not have something like that here in Nashville.  The 'trees' are now a building and a parking lot - now for three years and I have checked for any coming up thru cracks - but sadly no.  There were two victorian era houses.  One had two very big fig trees in the front.  There was perhaps 3 or 4 feet between the houses.  The space between the houses, for over half the width, was full of small fig plants.  I guess somebody could have planted figs between the houses, and then cut them back or they continually got cut back by cold and somehow spread by the roots.  If not, why would someone plant figs where they don't get light? 

I know this thread is about growing from seed but is anyone hand pollinating thier figs and if so what capri fig are you using and why?
unless you don't want to reveal that info I would understand I am thinking about playing around with it and want to get a good capri and avoid trouble.
If I should start a new thread please let me know.

I know this is a very old thread, but I was wondering if any of those seedlings produced good figs? Also for those who ordered Patlican cuttings from Ebay... did they self pollinate and fruit for you?

if you can cancel the order, you should. otherwise, you might get a visit from USDA. importing seed and cuttings from oversea without proper paper/permit is not legal. we had members who had visit from USDA recently.

I am interested in acquiring the best tasting varieties that grow well in zone 8a. I'd also like to eventually play with hand pollinating and being able to see what comes from the seeds. I see this being a favorite hobby for many many years to come.

Growing from seed.... What is the fastest growing variety from seed? I want to use for grafting. Black Bursa is fast... Any faster?
