Fig Protection

I've been feeding this guy trying to keep him around to get rid of all the birds and squirrels that are eating my figs

Semper vigil ficus praesidio

Great!

Cool.  I have friends (without figs) who have done the same thing. They have red-tailed hawks, and they've been feeding them bits of meat for a few years now. They put the tid-bits on the top of a fence post, and the hawks (there are now a pair) who wait in the nearby trees. When they trap a gopher, that also goes on the fence post for the birds.

Wish I had a watch hawk! So is it working is he hanging around and scaring away the vermin?

How and what do you feed them? I have many hawks, but never thought about feeding them. I know when they need a snack, they just fly by the bird feeder and take one.

I know this may sound crazy bit I have a bird feeder 5 ft from a tree and the birds land on the tree but only as a perch while waiting for the other birds on the feeder to leave.  Not a single peck in a fig this season.  Acts like a decoy I guess.

there are hawks, and falcons in nc. wonder how to attract them. i do see them circling around now and then.. it would be neat idea for pest control.

I only feed them what they would eat naturally squirrels, chipmunks, whatever I can get with my pellet gun
