fig protection in Hawai

I met a woman whose son moved out to Maui in the 1970's to grow fruit.  He grows quite a number of figs -- partly for his own consumption, but partly as a peace offering to all the other wild animals/birds. He lets them eat all the figs they want in an attempt to keep them away from the more marketable/lucrative tropical fruit he grows.  I'd love to have that problem.

Thanks, Grasa. Very interesting.
But, why the Brown Turkey ripe is green up there?

In Hawaii everything is green, even the brown turkey.. (all I could think)
