fig rust

does anyone have any suggestions on how to rid my plants of fig rust?  I already tried some spray that is suppose to stop it but it seems to be spreading. I heard of using cornmeal and mixing it with water and applying it to the affected plants.  thank you ahead for any input or suggestions by the forum members thanks , Will

1) Copper Bordeaux spray
2) Neem Oil spray

With either one, you will need to remove the heavily infected leaves and spray the remainder of the tree once a week (plus after rains) for several weeks.

Will:
the granola-head perspective here. At this link I show before & after pics of (mostly) Petit Negri.
2008 almost leafless in October. (These trees have since been move to another location & have had no rust problems).
The 09 pics are of my *mother* PN tree. The November pic is after the 1st frost.

I did two things which may have solved the rust problem:
I did one foliar spray treatment with this product--

--I was mostly after the Boron.

And I made an anti-fungal spray from the fermented tea of this plant:

Biodynamic farmers use this to keep the fungal activity below the soil line--and off the dang leaves!
good luck.

I was clueless before someone on this list posted about rust 2 years back !

Here is a recipe for cornmeal tea you can spray on.  I don't know if it works but I saved this quote from a post on another forum a while back.

Cornmeal has natural anti-fungal properties. I make up a spray by soaking 1 cup of cornmeal (from the bakery section of the market) in a 1/2 gallon of water for 24 hours. Stir it up a few times during the soaking. Let all the cornmeal settle to the bottom and pour the clear, yellowish liquid into a spray bottle.

Thanks guys for all your input it means alot to me

Hi Stephen,

I looked at your link, but didn't see where it said to use the horsetail tea for antifungals.  How did you make your fermented tea that you used to combat the rust on your figs?

Thanks,

Vivian
