Fig Rust??

Help!!
I've had Celeste fig trees in N Texas for a few years. We had a hot dry summer, with almost no rain, until recently when we had a couple downpours, it was during this time, a couple days that this brown stuff appeared on the leaves.  I'd like to post some pictures of the problem, & find out whether this is the rust or something where I need to leaf the tree. I have 5 trees total. Thank you for your help.

Hi Helen,

I am having some leaf rust issues on a few of my plants.  Right now, I'm only finding it on the older leaves.  The trees that are putting on new growth do not have any spots on the newer growth.  So some trees are partially rusty.  Those that have not grown at all recently (MBVS, Osborne Prolific, and Verdal Longue) are just about completely covered in rust.

Removing the affected leaves may (along with other environmental factors) push the tree to put out new growth.  Given where we are in the season, you may not want to encourage the tree to do this.

Some rust on my trees as well its early perhaps here were going to get a good ole fashion winter this 2012/2013
Nights have been in 50s with lots of humidity and dew on grass.
This week warm but next week back to 80s and 50s @night again.

This is not the best picture. I'm used to them turning colors, but a lot of them have what looks like rust.
Because of the recent rains, my trees are still producing new growth.
Thank you

Hi Helen - welcome to the forum - we are neighbors!!  I'm in Lewisville.

Have you watered them before the rain came?  I don't know for sure if thats the issue or not. My tree is new this year and have not seen any signs of this.  I have it in my garden so it has been watered regularly.

What varieties do you have?

We'd like to know about you and your figs.

I have 5 celeste trees, grown from cuttings from a super producing parent tree.  We've had them for about 7 years now, & they produce anastonishing amount of wonderful figs. We usually can them/preserves, but this year it;s fig muffins. matter of fact, we;re out and I've got to make some more. ;)
