I just want to confirm is this fig rust? I trees have leaves like that. i have read in the archives some treatments and I do have neam oil. It is only on these two bottome leaves I can remove them and spray the tree. I guess my two questions are should I treat it at this point in the season and do I just follow the instructions on the neam oil or is there another way I should use it?
I don't think so. Just some leaves that have been a little stressed. Slight underwatering, or sudden change in temp. or ? I wouldn't get excited.
Thanks! I think I have been pretty good with watering. I did have to do an up pot a while ago and these are the oldest leave on the tree.
That could do it. The older leaves usually look older, just like people. They have more age, have seen more stress, from sun, wind, water (or lack thereof), insect damage, etc, etc.
i started using irrigation system with drip head since start of aug. one mistake i made is that the drip head didn't cover all the surface of the soil. one area was getting dried up. i didn't know that until my leaves were getting large brown spots. i tried two drip head, but the water pressure wasn't enough to cover all if i do that. i might try micro sprinkler. pete
I have a few more pictures to add to this these are from other trees. They are for the most part all the trees that have this are close together. I'm wondering if this would be stress for all of them?
Hi 71GTO,now late in season here i get a lot of that on my leaves as nights are cool and dewey, grass is always wet even when i let the dogs out late eve before beddie by.In morning my car windshield on driveway is all wet and thus the leaves on my fig trees show the effects.I personally never worry about mine. The next spring leaf out there brand new again and stay that way here in my climate till this time of year once again.
Thanks, I won't worry about. What is it though? Is it just a reatction from being wet all night. My grass and trees have dew on them every morning as well.
I have the same, started when nighttime temps began to dip into the 50s. It is primarily on trees that I have possibly underwatered, too. With the temp drops, I have also noticed many lower leaves on my tree are yellowing with large perfectly round brown dots, almost like someone set the tip of an ink pen on a sheet of paper (2mm-3mm dot)
Oh, now I really have to wonder if I was underwatering all summer. The trees grew ok I think, but I have been so very conscious of watering since starting cuttings. I would water everyday and the pots had some wright to them, but I was probably not watering enough that water would run out the bottom. Maybe about about 20oz soda bottles worth of water a pot.
I do about half a 20oz bottle per 1gal pot per morning.
Oh, I might have been underwatering. I don't know the exact size, but the pots are atleast 3 gallon size.
yeah, i do about a 20oz bottle of water's worth in my 3gal in the morning, and that barely gets them through a day of summer heat, but any more than that and it's gushing out of the bottom holes.
It is Rust and you need to do nothing,it will go away,if you remove the dead leaves. How can the tree not get rust, when we had 30 inches of rain in the last 30 days.Do you think that they get this kind of rain in Central,California or Sicily ever? This was a climatic disaster what we had, since Aug 10.
I've also been seeing alot of this on my trees here in KY. I haven't been too concerned about it but was wondering what it is. I didn't give it much thought until my neighbor mentioned having it on his trees as well. He thought it was some sort of mold. I didn't have a clue but did note that it seems to coincide with the cooler weather. One thing I'm not so sure about is how much it has to do with excessive rain. We haven't had much rain all summer up unitl about two weeks ago. Even then we've only had two good rains in that time. I'm not disagreeing with you Vasile since this bit of rain may have been just enough to cause similar results that you guys are seeing further east. Just sharing my thoughts on what seems to be a very similar condition on my trees at this time, yet under dryer weather conditions.
Thanks Herman i'm a little confused should I do nothing or remove the dead leaves?
This is rust on a rare cacti I almost eats holes through the plant.
peyote!
Do nothing or remove those leaves,it is up to you.
Thanks Herman. I guess I will leave them on. Otherwise I won't have that many leaves left on the tree.
celt where did u get that yummy looking cacti??????? Jason you have a good eye!!!!
Foaf had it.
Ok, I figured I would just leave them alone, but this morning I saw a lot of leaves turned yellow and fell off. I wonder if they will have any leaves left to fall off when it gets cold. It rained this weekend and it was very humid all weekend. Is this still ok?
Yellowing of the leaves could be from a lack of nitrogen. Have you fertilized them recently? It may be too late in the season to fertilize, but you could try a little blood meal, dried blood, mixed with water to give them a shot of nitrogen. Though this will encourage new growth, and might not be a good idea at this time.
