Fig Season 2010

Ok, it's really the end of 2009, but had one ripe fig today: Adam. It was actually quite good, ripening during 2 weeks of 60ish weather.

Is that the carcass of a wasp in the last picture?  Look for the 3 vertical dots just to the right of the most prominent seed that sits right off-center.

EDIT:  Actually, nix that.  I think it's an ant.  I see an ant just a millimeter or two below dead-center on the 2nd to last picture.  Both appear to be an ant, rather than wasp ;)

(Don't get me wrong, I'd still eat it!)

Jon, does it mean that it is a very late ripening fig or some other reasons made it ripen late. Otherwise I like the colours. A week ago when surfing the varieties on this site, I kept looking at "Adam" and admiring its colours and even the Violette/pinkish colour of the cut skin and meat.

Good eye Jason .
Jon i bet enjoyed that fig  ; ) , it sure looks nice this time of year with snow and some chillier weather as of late with more to come from our friends in Canada.

It did have a few ants inside when I picked it. Ants in a light, sweet fig sauce are quite good.

There were some that ripened much earlier in the season, however, they had a bad splitting problem. This one was a late season fruit set because of a cool week in August which induced a slight dormancy followed by a reflush with new frut set when warm weather returned. Several of my trees reflushed like this season. Unlike early season ripeners, this one did not split.

The fact that it was as good as it was evidences that it might do well in cooler climates - as this one certainly ripened in off peak weather.

Jon, what is the relationship of Adam to Dauphine. Are they the same or just similar?

None thay I know of.

they are supposed to be the same

If I remember correctly Reads Nursery told me their Adam variant is not the same as Dauphine.

Didn't show any similarity to my Dauphine.
