Fig Season Came and Went

As thread title says.

Now need to move a few things around in garage to make sure the containers all fit which should not be a problem.

This week may bring frost so first season plants come in as they tend to be stubborn  for example elders have dropped there leaves as we had early cold already high 30s but not cold enough to bring them in just yet and the first season ones still mostly green with a little fading of leaf color. 35 degree's and young ones there in garage for season period.

I do not go by leaf drop.

The adults like i always do each get to see 2 good frosts in the high 20s weather permitting then they come in for good.

Another season gone by .

Ah, but the memories of all those great figs
Linger...

Think about what we-north-fig-people go through for them figs.

Wonder of what place I should (actually) retire in ... is it CA or Med. Sea ...

Gorgi...it's 90 here today, no sign of any season but summer. :-)

I am moving near Sue sounds great.

I'm staying North. The Earth will be going through a climate change soon.
California ( Southern part ) will become a Winter Wonderland and Michigan will become Pineapples and coconuts.

Bring your sun tan oil.

George,
Stay in Jersey. It will soon become zone 8.

Someone should tell Jon to start packing.

If Tucson's winters warmed up just enough to let me grow mangoes, it wouldn't hurt my feelings!

THE SUMMER WEATHER DID'T SAY HELLO HERE IN NORTHERN OHIO.HELLO RECORD BREAKING RAIN.WE WILL NEVER HAVE A CLIMATE CHANGE HERE.CLEVELAND IS THE NOW THE WINDY AND WET CITY OF THE NATION.HAVE A WARM WINTER CALIFORNIA.
PHIL

George if i had my choice the med would be the place for sure.
Id have a few drinks of courage to enable me to get on that bird and not worry about it falling out of the sky.

I do have one thing to say - I am happy to see that the airlayer I setup on one of my trees a few weeks back is pushing nice fat roots out to the sides of my water bottle.  Was RKN infected from the home nursery;  had to airlayer.

Well, this is next and these pictures are from today

Nice pictures Rafed, you must be in Colorado, keep it safe.

Yes the season has come and almost gone. I'm sorry to see it go but that's the only way my trees will get to produce a lot of figs next year. We've got to look forward. I can hardly wait to taste that luscious honey sweet, melt in you mouth goodness of my Cajun Gold. It worth living through a winter for it. It's been a memorable season, I got to taste my first China White, Paradiso, LSU Tiger, Mead, Strawberry, Conadria, Preto, Abbeberria and Black Ischia. Looks like I might get a late ripening negronne off a tree I got from Rafed a couple of years back. Hopefully I can put have all my trees in the ground next year.

The best thing I've grown over the last couple of seasons has been the friendships of you great people. The crop was abundant and tasty. I wish a moderate winter to all of you. May your figs sleep well and comfortable so they may bring you an abundance of figs the coming season.

I say they are ugly pics!

More so, stay more safe...

My Nigronne is still ripening figs.  It is its first year here with me and I planted it in the ground on the south/east side of my outbuilding.  I think I got lucky and picked a good fig for east Tennessee.  Hoping it survives the winter.

Gene,

You were close. This is Wyoming, between Laramie and Rawlins on I-80.
Approx. 7500 ft.

George,

I love your comment. LOL

Well Rafed,

You are the only Road Warrior we have...

BTW, I do like those (very fictitious) Mad Max movies too...

Gorgi, you can always come south for the winter. I can almost guarantee you will not see and white stuff here.

Hi Martin
It is not gone yet. I have a few half ripe figs on a couple of plants and they are going to freeze tonight at 21F and may unfreeze since the leaves are still green and daytime will be 5C (41F).
However, I consider the season to be over for me only when all my plants are set to rest in their final place of hibernation for the winter.
I believe it was a good summer for my plants and for me with enough ripe figs (may be a good increase in fig watering bill plus unnecessary sewer charges). Even Martin's Unknown (Black) had two ripe figs this year but because of cold they did not darken like I had seen in your picture.
I hope the next year summer will be as good (warm and sunny) as this past summer.
I had a good routine of sharing ripe figs with my wife. I will take some ripe figs inside; for each one I took I gave two to my wife (& then came out and ate some from the plants to make up for my deficit).

PM me, I'm interested in your unknown

As much as I loathe the hot, humid weather, I love growing plants too much, and there's always air-conditioning to cool me off when when I wilt.  So, going South, to warmer climes would be my choice, or...staying up North, but.... with a greenhouse.

Just dreams, and nothing but smoke that vanishes too quickly.  My "wish-list".

Frank

I'm central coastal NJ, think we have a month left. Last year, an exception, was mostly mild til December.
I look forward to the fig shuffle- lol just kidding!

day temp is still up at 80.. but night temp is now high 50.. i might have to think about moving my Black Madeira and Col de Dame Blanche around soon.. still have figs on the older trees.. they should be good till early to mid Nov. here.. i had some good figs this year.. i'm definitely looking forward to next year.

Just want my Preto figs to ripen and they should. I've been having severe critter problems lately, it's like they tell their friends to come to my yard and feast, so I'm gonna have to build a fort around that tree. Oh and one fig on my Blanca de Maella will need to be protected. Every other SC fig goes to the birds these days , they love that one

my black mission only has 2 small figs so far, its a young tree. i hope they ripen before winter!
