Fig Season is HERE

2009 winner of "First Fig of the Season", this year, goes to Lyndhurst White.  It turns out to be a little less ripe than it seemed, but this is the first season it has fruited, so I am still calibrating it. There are two more right behind it, already ripening.

From a tactile perspective, this fig had the most fabulously soft, velvety skin - unlike any fig I have ever touched.

Jon,
is that a breba fig or main crop, im not familar with time frame in California for figs. But congratulations on first fig its a start of things hopefully to come for us fig enthusiasts.
Oh also Jon im curious and must ask before i forget are you thinking of having another contest this year i gather your quite busy and understand if you choose not to.

Brebas, so called, have been "ripening" for more than month, here. No, "Fig Season" means main crop in San Diego.

Haven't thought much about a contest.

I understand the 2 terms now thanks.

Jon
You mentioned it fruited the first time. How old is the plant?

The 2nd picture looks like an alien's face with no mouth.

It was planted last Spring, and is probabloy about 2' tall currently. I think this is its 4th season.

Way to go KK (Keith)! For your recent NJ-LW-fig find. I always knew that there was some 'umph' to it.

And as  Jon mentioned, his was  pre-harvested. It does get better..
