"fig shuffle" TM Patent Martin beginning!

Ciao, Spring is really starting here in C Penna. We have had already almost 70, pretty much in high 40's  50's and 60's, good good thunderstorm already and that is what made me do Martin's "fig shuffle" Sleeping fig plants got a good soaker of good Thunderstorm water, moved All from attic to outside back yard, buds breaking, of course it is still cold at night, so bring inside at night! So wonderful to start now. At least they will accimilate and not get leaf scorch from sun as they are leafing out and not just thrown into sun. Weather is gradually gradually getting warmer, think maybe big rodent phil may have been correct in Punxsy!  I feel like life is coming back into the blood with the warm air and SUN and see my figs outside again. Still inside the newly rooted cuttings from this fall, they will go outside only when in 70's and gradual sun as they are all leafed out well. Ciao

Wow your so lucky is that Flordias weather or Pennsylvanias?

It has been in the 80's in my unheated greenhouse but it is sure cold this morning. It sounds as if that is temporary though. My three mystery fig trees are breaking bud too. I uncover them during the day and recover them at night. The greenhouse gets very warm during the day 60- 80 degrees depending on the amount of sunlight then back into the upper 20's at night. I am moving  my cool weather transplants to a mini greenhouse within the larger greenhouse today so they can harden off. I plant early crops in raised beds in the greenhouses this month. My tomato seedlings will be planted March 20 in the beds.

It is a great feeling when spring starts to get the upper hand on winter. We've had a good run of warm days (it's supposed to hit 80 today) despite a couple mornings with a little frost on the windshield. Although the in-ground figs are still totally dormant (with probably a fair bit of die-back due to some hard freezes), my potted figs are soaking up the sunshine and right on the verge of leafing out, with a few little breba bumps here and there. Looks like the start of a great year!

Tuscon, Yes, is going to be good year I feel it. Back and forth back and forth but at least we can do this now ciao

Mommagoose, I started peppers and tomato and other veggie seeds as well. Tis the season. But wow, wind lately, but march is generally a very windy month.
Rob, I am in Pennsylvania, I was going to move family and business to Fla, but I found very close to last minute, I didn't want at this time to move. This area is home to me, I have moved and uprooted myself and family so much in my life since 4 years old, I guess I am tired of moving! I want to settle for while. I have lived all over this country since came at young age, so much places, PHiladelphia,Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Florida, San Diego, Washington D.C. New york City, due to mostly my father buying and selling and he was a real pioneer and didn't like to stay in one place, he always said the world is to big, must see everything then die at home in Italy with a drum of wine next to him! time to stop for while for me though. I will move to south when we are older though if we don't return to Italy to live our old years, which we have been talking about alot lately which would really be my dream when older. I believe I sent e-letters to all customers and associates of mine stating was staying in Pennsylvania, did you receive one? I have quite a few Rob/Roberts, maybe got mixed up.

Went to 18 last night, brought everything inside, today stay inside as only going to be 38, but tomorrow back near 50 will take all back outside tomorrow. My house looks so crazy as I have sheets all over the rugs/floors with all these big fig trunks/pots  everywhere! even some in kitchen, hard to walk around and cook, Oh well, Happy anyway.  Ciao

Maggie, it sounds like you have fig heaven right in your house right now.  :)

noss

Yes Vivian, heaven indeed. Now just can't wait to eat some in a few months. Just glad not too leafed out or my house would smell like cat urine, that drives me nuts. Tony will be building me my greenhouse this year, definitely glad for that. Ciao Vivi

Ciao Maggie,

A greenhouse!  That's great and no, I would not like that smell in my house, either.  It belongs outside, but that's the smell of the first fig trees I ever knew.  :)  Still wouldn't want it in my house.

I hope you are blessed with a fantastic fig season this year,

Viv
