Fig souring

I have never had my figs sour (or at least to this degree) until today. They are terrible. We've had torrential thunderstorms periodically last week. I always read about the souring effect, but never experienced it since I started growing figs. Every single variety I have is now terrible. My question is, are all my fruits including future ones this season going to be spoiled? I will be heart broken if this is so. I had so many more things I wanted to do with them this season. Thanks.

As long as the figs are not swelling/ripening when it rains, they should be fine.

Nothing quite as disappointing as a soured fig, terrible taste and leaves you a little sick. I've had that problem this year and 2011. Both years were record rain falls, this year exceeding 2011 for rain totals but 2011 was concentrated in August and it was brutal.

Yes ,I have the same problem, with souring and it started last Saturday, when it started raining, and after that it was ,bad everyday, the air is full of water ,night and day,and almost each day there is rain, sometimes in the day time, sometimes in the night.
The climate was like a Sauna, hot humid, and rainy.
But,Today it seem ,the sun was shining again, and we had a wind breeze.
If it keeps this way this Week,we will have again good flavorfull fruits.
When the trees are old, they have hundreds of fruits, some will ripe in good dry climate some during rain,so we hate the souring fruits, but love the properly ripe ones that come with dry days.
What is important,is to dispose of the souring fruits as soon as possible,so the bacteria of souring,is  taken away from the tree,so it minimize souring.

Thanks for starting this thread.  I'm new to growing figs but not new to figs in general and I have had sour/spoiled ones before.  I never knew that it was the rainfall at the time of swelling/ripening that caused it.  I always thought it was just b/c they stayed on the tree too long after becoming ripe.  I'm learning something new on this forum everyday.  Thanks to Jon for starting it and to the rest of you for sharing your knowledge and experience.  =)

Over-ripe figs have a kind of wine taste to it (at least the dark fig berry sort does, and it's sometimes nice if you catch it just right).  It's not immediately repellent like soured figs.

HELLO EVERYBODY
we have some fig trees in our garden

we have a trouble with souring figs
almost all figs become sour while they get ripen
it is third year that we have this problem
i want to mention that the tree is a little old
i try to maintain soil by adding compost to it
but it didn't work

i read in internet this problem caused by yeasts
but i don't know what to do :(

what can i do to prevent this ?
is there any  pesticide or something like mineral or compost that can work  ?
thanks  and wish best

You can't do anything,to stop souring on your present trees.
But what you can do is look for other people in Iran, that have fig trees that do not sour.
The figs that do not sour, have very small eye that do not permit, souring beetle and vinegar fly to place vinegar bacteria inside the eye of the fig.
Also try to find fig cultivars that are self fruitful, and do not need ,the fig wasp to pollinate, because ,the wasp also can introduce the souring agent.
And last if you have a male fig,in your yard, cut it down, once you have self fruitful figs, because the wasps live inside the male fruits.
Your climate is dry and ,many self fruitful fig trees will not sour in your climate.
