Mario,

Looks like you found Grimo at Niagra in the Lakes, On.
I purchased his trees a few years ago.
They were Bare root, But I have no problem with that.

The trees grew very well but none made it at my own hands.
I was planning on ordering from him again for spring shipping.

In my opinion, Any of the figs he has listed should/will do well.
Just do a better job then I did in protecting them.

That's what they are called they are about an hours drive from me I think I'll be paying them a visit soon the website looks good
and they have a good selection of trees

Its good to know that you have had dealings with them and all went well
how about the varieties that they claim to have are they true to the name

Here's there site address

Its worth taking a look

Hey Marjo I also got a pawpaw from grimo and bought a Grafted NC-1 from http://www.tropic.ca in BC. Humbernurseries also sells Pawpaw's they used to sell Davis & Sunflower but they are pricey.

Mario,

I had ordered the fig trees in late spring.
The trees grew well for the short time they had, Showed no signs of FMV or anything else.
Just wasn't enough time for them to produce any figs.

I didn't do a good enough job in protecting them! They didn't survive the brutal winter in the backyard shed.

Ficazzana, Verte and Kadota are all really great figs.

Mario
I had started my fig collection staring with Grimo Nut Nursery and later Adriano too when I learned about that source. Last year I bought Illinois Everbearing Mulberry and Yates persimmon and a few other things from Grimo. I have a couple of American chestnut plants on order from Grimo for spring delivery. Just trying to help the recovery of the American chestnuts (!).

My 2nd year plus White Fig, Ficazzana is very similar to my Lattarula from a different source. It has been reported that Natalina is same as Celeste. See thread titled "Fig Tree Varieties From Italy", May 2009. Another member have posted pic's on Ficazzana & concluded its same as Lattarula.

So paully does that mean that Grimos White, Ficazzana & lattarula are the same fig? wtf and natalina is a Celeste I get more confused everyday.

Well, it came from the fig guru's feedback that his Natalina is Celeste from the same source.

ha ha ha Nelson, thats the fun part of figging. So far I would say they are very, very very, similar. See pictures posted by fignut either in this forum or over at GardenWeb.

Hey Paully I did see those pics and the figs look the same wonder if the leaves are identical too, When I asked Adriano about that he said Lattarula & Fracazzo Bianco is not the same fig so again I was scratching my head. Because I had seen that post earlier saying Grimos Ficazzana was the same as Adrianos Fracazzo Bianco & same as Lattarula from Paradise etc etc.

Honestly Nelson, I am still somewhat reluctant to confirm 100% they are the same as the whole point of buying a different variant is to be "different". However the sight & its similar taste, growing habits can only be disputed with DNA profiling. If asked as an opinion whether I would have bought such variants if I had access to such info earlier  -- I would never make a purchase decision on buying White Fig & Ficazzana. Again it may be just my luck that the source could have made a genuine mistake in  labelling.

Thats very true Paul mislabeling is all too common unfortunately. Im pretty sure Grimo's white fig is supposed to be St. Anthony's I also Ordered a Ficazzana from Grimo in late Nov. wich I should get in April now im wondering what I will get hehehe.

What will you say to my observation that my Lattarulla and White figs from Grimo have different fruiting and ripening habits in similar pots and location. Lattarulla tends to  ripen quite earlier than Grimo White. I will try to observe these more carefully next summer (if all this snow and winter goes away!).

Interesting
Akram I to ordered a Yates Persimmon a couple of American Chestnut Trees
and a couple of PawPaw trees from Grimo they open in April thats wen I'm going to pick up the order
Like you I just can wait for the weather to warm up can't complain about snow yet I dont have much around my place but its been cold

Off topic  -- I just wrote "Forrest Keeling Nursery" USA requesting info on their agent location in Canada for their patented Peterson's pawpaws. Seems they have some excellent Peterson's variants. I am game to try how delicious pawpaws are. Really tempting after sighting BASS website pictures on pawpaws.

Mario
You have the Lakes to thank for the reasonably good temperatures. I am half kilometer away from the Ottawa River but it freezes by the end of December or early January so no help in moderating the temperatures.
I also have paw paw since 2007 but the plants are doing nothing but trying to survive without any protection other than mound of maple leaves on the base. Well, at least apples and some pears grow OK here with no protection.

I remember eating them as a boy
They are native in the Azores and My Grandfather had some trees of a similar fruit they where called Coracao Negro and they looked a little different but these Pawpaws suppose to taste the same
we will see some day

I guess its all about the food hey!!!!!!

Hey Mario Coracoes Negros are Annona Reticulata. I too grew up eating annona's in Madeira and wanted some pawpaws since its part of the annona family. The pawpaw I got from grimo put out some leaves this year but grew nothing I too have a Grafted NC-1 pawpaw but its only about 2ft now but Im hopping to graft some NC-1 Onto my seedling in the future.

Hi Nelson

I'm going to plead ignorant but what is NC-1 ?

I'm trying to plan a trip back to the Islands in the near future
wen I do I'm going to bring back all the cuttings I can sneak through
I understand you have some figs from the Azores How are they doing?

Hey Mario I only have Capelas from the Azores so far,  I have 2 varieties from Madeira Island. They are all alive but growing slowly due to lack of sunlight, Adriano has a few varieties from The Azores that he named after the islands like Sao Jorge, Figo Flores & capelas from the district of Capelas in Ponta Delgada. Im sure if you go back you will be able to get cuttings of different varieties but the problem just like in Madeira people just go by their own names and thats where the confusion begins.
