Fig Tea

Someone on the GardenWeb forum revived an old thread about fig tea. After doing a google search on fig teas, I decide to try it myself. I cut a couple of nice leaves off of my Conadria which hadn't gotten old and stiff and cut them up. With a couple cups of water in a pot, I put them to boil. After 20 minutes I turned it off and let it settle a minute. It smelled slightly of fig leaves which to the unknowing nose could be mistaken for a hint of coconut. I poured a cup and the taste is similar to the smell, very light with a slight fig or coconut flavor. It was not bitter so I added nothing and drank the whole cup.

I was wondering if any of you had tried fig leaf tea. It supposedly has medicinal properties that help control blood sugar. Just a wondering.

I have not tried it Gene.
But if it can somewhat cure baldness i have enough leaves to get back my ole hair i had from the early 70s.
; )

Martin, it solved a problem for Adam and Eve so who knows what it might do for you.
Good luck,

I love that coconut smell!  It's the sap in the leaves that makes the smell.

People who are allergic to fig sap may want to be careful if trying this.

Thanks Gene.
Haven't tried it but I will. Between Fig Tea and Sassafrass Tea I can cut down on the (price of gold) Coff$$.

Dave that is my intent also. I drink way to much coffee, most of it at work. I'm looking for a healthier alternative. When I retire after this year I hope to be almost totally off of coffee except maybe for a morning cup. I already drink other herbal teas.

Hi Gene.  Thanks for sharing this great idea!

Hope you are doing well.

Best wishes.

Martin--keep us posted on how it works on the scalp. Maybe I'll find a use for my sour Brown Turkey. Will you drink it or apply it directly? ;)

Male pattern baldness is tough a problem to remedy, but anything is worth a try.

And in the interest of science, someone needs to try the fig tea for a different but all too common male age-related problem.

Not sure whether drinking the tea or applying it directly would be more effective for this problem, but if you try to the direct application method, be sure and let the tea cool first.  ;-)

Best wishes to all.

I have a neighbor here from Haiti,an he drinks Fig leaves tea for Diabetic remedy.
He was told in Haiti by medicine folks, that fig leaves tea is very good for this illness. And now I hear it again from you ,on this forum.

Herman Linda will be trying it out when we return from vacation in two weeks. She is diabetic. If we find out anything important I will post it here. I liked the tea and will be drinking more.

We used to live in Amish Country in Indiana, and the Amish believe that for every human illness God provided us a plant to help us.

Herbal remedies offer tremendous health benefits without the side-effects of prescription drugs.  We take no prescription drugs, using only natural, herbal and homeopathic treatments and they work very well for us.

Natural remedies tend to work with your body, making you healthier, while many prescription drugs attack the illness, but attack your body also, giving you harmful side-effects.

A friend of mine was taking "Lipitor" to reduce cholestroral, and it nearly killed him by damaging his heart and lung muscles.  He is now taking natural herbs to reduce his cholestroral with good results.

The fig tea is worth a try, and at worst it's like my Mom used to say about chicken soup: "Even if it doesn't help; it couldn't hurt."

I hope that you will have good results from trying the fig tea.  Be patient, it may take some time to see results, and either way, it couldn't hurt.

Best wishes to all.

John

That's nuts- I was 30 and my doc wanted to put me on that stuff! Not Now! Pass the tea around.

@Georgia Fig
Hey John. I take Lipitor. Any idea of the natural remidies your friend uses. I would like to ditch the drugs.
Thanks
Dave.

i take lipitor also. i would like to know about remedy too, John. i'll have to do homework about lipitor because that doesn't sound good at all. luke

Dave ,
Hadn't thought about this for a while but,
I had a test 2 years ago that caused my doctor to actually call me at home before I left for a trip. . Cholesterol approaching 300 , triglycerides-yikes !
Blood pressure not good at all. He wanted to put me on medication right away.
Knew I wasn't in good shape , but the call scared me into action.
My brother who is always in good shape told me to follow what a book called Eat to Live recommended as far as diet. The doctors name is Joel Fuhrman.
My brother gave me his old copy of the book and with that and some exercise I lost 60 lbs from 245 to 185 in probably 6 months , cholesterol is down to 190 maybe less by now , blood pressure better than perfect.
The doctor called me again to tell me the numbers because he didn't believe it was possible that I could do it with no medication.
Have since regained 10 lbs , but sitting at 195 is a whole lot better than where I was. Grateful my brother told me about this book.

High cholesterol can be caused by either a genetic predisposition, obesity, poor diet, sedentary lifestyle or a combination of all of the above.

The best "medicine" for  hyperlipidimia  is a healthy lifestyle. Getting down to a normal BMI does wonders.Keeping physically active is amazing medicine. There are no shortcuts. Lipitor or any of the other statins work very well but they should be a last resort when all else fails.

I know, easier said than done but necessary if we want to continue to enjoy the joys of figgetry.

FMD you're right.
Not too many years ago I was an avid runner,5'10'155lbs. little bodyfat, High Cholesteral. Doctor said I had picked the wrong grandparants.
All that being said, high Cholesterol in a lean athletic frame is better than in a fat lazy frame(mine at present). LOL.

i'm 5'10" 160lbs. on so many med to list. lipitol being one of them. yeah.. can't choose your parents, or grandparents. love working out, but it's getting hard to squeeze in work out when have two kids and running around half of the time getting them to activities. since my little one enjoys martial art that i love, i might get him to start. gives me excuse to get back into it. nothing like gettng tars beat out of me, and dishing some back :)
