Fig to plant now

A store where I lived had cheap price on fig
It was 15 dollar and the Lattarulla (Italian Honey Fig and I was wondering can I plant in the ground and it is around 3ft tall
I live in Vancouver bc
Or should I wait until it is dormant to plant
in spring

I think now so the roots can set.

I would also give it some Winter protection.

Welcome to the forum Michael. If you can have another fig tree, go with Desert King in BC Vancouver area. Its great on taste too. Other variants that are sold by most nurseries would most likely not give you lots of ripe figs like DK. Weather is the issue. Plant in the most sunny spot. Pinched growing tip after every 5th or 6th leaf to force branching. In about 3 to 4 years you will have a low well branched tree bearing a healthy supply of figs. I visited a friend in Vancouver, BC yesterday & he has a 7 yrs old DK. It probably has about 400 large DK figs due mainly to pinching and likely under 8ft tall.
