Fig Tree I grafted

Typically, grafting is done in spring, for my location it is March to April ideally yet I have had some success later in the year.  The main importance with grafting is matching up the vascular cambium layer, followed by properly securing the Scionwood and sealing the cutting to prevent it from dying out. Also, the tree should be 2 or 3 weeks ahead of the scionwood. Meaning the scionwood is still dormant while the tree is starting to bud out.

Again, I have yet to graft a fig, I only have experience with stone fruits, apples and pears.

Both work very well for me, but I will say that the omega grafts are almost invisible on the trees other than the change in bark.  There is a couple on my Italian plum, if they weren't tagged, they'd be hard to find.

I have yet to graft a fig, maybe this spring, or maybe next.

Though the tool is a bit pricey, I do highly recomend it.

Do you mind saying the brand of it or have a link?

Charlie,

I no longer remember what site I got mine from, A little research will yield the best price.  Here is a link to a site that has it.

Mine is the bottom one, RYSET GRAFTING TOOL GT572

I love it, yet I have never used another so I know no difference.  For my cleft grafts, I use an old high end fish filet knife and a razor knife, both work great for me.  Other then the hail damage I have a very high success rate grafting.

Yes that's a really cool tool also.  I want one but will start with this and see how it goes.

Henry,

That tool is sweet, now I want one of those also.  Do you have a name or link for it?

Scott

Not sure if I got the same thing, but I only found this thread after I bought Perforated Budding Tape.  I need it for a few reasons, the main one being I need to top work an avocado seedling that has two trunks both taller than me.  We are purchasing a Jan Boyce avocado when it comes in (May-June), and I will convert at least one trunk to that variety.  It's known as the gourmet of all avocados.  Marble size seed with big buttery flavorful meat.  Gonna go down and pinch the big trunk so I get a lot of side branches on which to graft.  I need Jan Boyce to pollinate my other dream gourmet avo Kona Sharwill.

Curiosity has me though, and I want to see what the avocado seed I planted actually produces.  Two trunks = two chances.

Then there is the unproductive fig.  I'd like to graft buds onto it to see if I can get some good varieties on it.

Tape is on the way!
