Fig Tree I saved

Hi I got this tree from a house that burned down in Hamilton NJ. I was driving bye  and saw a burned down house with a partially burned fig tree along side of it. I stopped and asked the neighbors and they told me the house was abandoned and  I could help myself to the tree. So I dug up a coule of branches potted it and this is it 3 years latter. Don't know what kind it is any help? one more pic
  Thank you Paul
PS thanks Gorgi & bass for the info on posting pics

PM, any more pics of the leaves? Also, how did it taste. I would ask the owner if you could take the whole tree if it is in danger of dying. I've done that in abandoned figgy trees.

Look forward to hearing from you.

It was very sweet and  I added another pic trying to find more. I would ask but I no longer live there. That pic is the tree in upstate NY at its new home. I also will add it throws a lot of  new shoots from the bottom with roots.

I hate to get on my Soap Box but this seems like as good of an opportunity as has come recently on this Forum with several current "guess this Fig" posts!

We can continue to play the guessing game, or we can build on Ira Condit's "Fig Varieties: A Monograph" (downloadable as a PDF from my website) by creating a Fig Variety Photographic Identification Database.  I maintain that a combination of Fig exterior, interior, eye, and dominant leaf form photograph is a much more reliable method than guessing what variety the Fig is from partial information or written descriptions.  A picture really is worth 1,000 words!

Please visit my website:  http://sites.google.com/site/kiwifruitsalad2
to download Condit's Monograph and my .doc proposal for creating the Photographic Database, as well as looking at the limited number of varieties that I have been able to photograph Brebas and leaves of.

If you have several varieties in your collection and want to help by contributing photos for the Database, let me know.  I'll post this same message on the other "Guess this Fig" posts to make sure everybody on this Forum sees it.

Happy Growing,   kiwibob   Seattle

PS:  my "guess" given the partial information in the photos is they appear to be of the Breba crop, and may be "Desert King", but that's just a guess and more clear photographic information would be helpful.

Does anyone know why there is more Horse's Ass's than Horses?

Kiwibob,
Jon's varietal page seems to have that covered with fig pictures , leaves , sometimes part of plant etc, etc.
I think there will always be questions such as "what type of fig is this"
which actually makes good discussion .

AMEN Martin!

Hey Guys and gals I posted this thread to share  A story behind a fig tree I saved, Sorry IF some of the experts don't want to enjoy it and yes I asked can someone identify it I was just curious sorry if anyone was offended!!

Hi PM920

Keep on doing what you have been doing!

All of us are interested in the members Figs, that is what this Forum is all about!

Every once in a while a H.A. Bobs up (catch on?)

My gut tells me to agree with Kiwi bob, looks awfully close to Desert King. I know several members who successfully grow DK in that area.

Cecil, you have such a way with words.

PM920, my interpretation of  the figs4fun forum is exactly as the name states, "figs4fun".. This site is populated with mostly uncommon common folks. We gather here for our enjoyment and to share our passion.  Jon has started the forum because of his passion and has invited us to share our passion with him. The main thrust here is to share information on our successes and failures so we can all learn together and share friendship. In that it been very successful. Jon has done a great job and as stated he has his varietal information and updates it as he gets new information. It might not be strictly scientific, but its works for most of us.

Maybe bob need to start a strictly scientific site to achieve what he seeks, nothing but facts and no fun guessing games.

AMEN, Gene!

PM920, thanks for posting! All your questions are welcome here. I don't have an answer for you on your great fig save, but thanks for asking the question and for posting the pictures.  I'm sure someone will come along with a response. Keep the questions coming and don't let some of our "unfun" members discourage you.

Paul, compare the leaves to the desert king you got from me.  I think the picture of the open fruit looks a lot like desert king. Also my king has the same habit of suckering easily.  Finally was it a breba only?  That should tell you if its dk.

Im scared to guess what I think it could be lol but the shape of the fig and colour of the pulp looks similar to the Fico Gentile from this thread  I do agree desert king does sucker easily. Is the pulp of your fig yellow pink or just pink?

Well ,I had both cultivars discussed here:Fico Gentille and Desert King.
They are very close and similar, and also breba figs.
If that fig came from Italy,I am sure they called it Fico Gentille, yet if it had west coast origine it was aquired as Desert King.
It is one of the 2, no doubt
H2

Herman, good advice as usual. They could easily genetically test them.
