Fig Tree ID Request: Number 5001

I found this fig tree not far from the house (8a/b). The owner said they got the tree at Home Depot, but do not remember what variety. Any ideas?

The owner said the figs get "brown", but she also said she had never seen a black fig before. So, they can't get too dark. They did say the figs were usually ripe by late July (in Houston).

The good news, if it is something worth having, is that I can have as many cutting as I want. She said that I could come back an pick all the figs too, if I could get to them before the birds. She also said that her husband hates the tree, and that I could dig up the whole thing if I wanted. Not possible as it is at least 15 ft tall.

Sorry for the few pics. Most turned out blurry.

looks to me a brown turkey.

I certainly considered BT as a possibility. But most of the mature leaves only have 1 to 3 lobes. It's mainly just the young leaves on the sucker growth that has more than 3 lobes. The eye also looked different than I expected on a BT. Very tight and no color showing. I had read that BT has an "eye which has a reddish color from very early stage". This is also a very tall and upright tree.

I am hoping for something better than Brown Turkey. I will see about going back to get some ripe fruit to help with confirming an ID.

I returned to the mystery tree today. The fruit is still very hard and unripe. But the figs are starting to get color inside. Here are new pics of leaf examples and what the fruit looks like now, inside and out.

I also talked to the owner some more, and I think when she says the figs turn "brown" she may be talking about sugar spots.

Anyone willing to offer any guess with the new pics?

Very nice red color inside but yes, unripe.

So you 2 can tell apart the different members of the Verte family from a fig or 2 as long as they are ripe? Very doubtful that Cliff will ever get a better ID than "Verte type".
