Fig Tree In Kenya

I know someone whose family lives in Kenya.  She went to visit her family in April of 2013.  I gave her a small fig tree to take.  It was a small rooted cutting of Joe's Jersey.  One of her family members in Kenya recently took photos of the tree.  Here are photos of the tree when it was first planted a year ago and photos of how the tree looks now.  I guess fig trees do grow in Kenya!

That is really cool

How beautiful is that? Nice!

Sweet, is it white or a dark fig ? looks like they love the small fig tree, but then how can you not ! ? just look at it !

Hopefully, your friend can explain propagation to her family so that they can one day have many more trees and share, etc.

Very interesting .
Seen many growing and producing in Western Africa.
But this is the first F.Carica seen on the other side

Francisco

Very cool! Makes me want to send cuttings to the middle of the Amazon forest or somewhere really far

that is wonderful sight to see.

The tree is growing at her grandmother's farm in the countryside outside of Nairobi.  They have not tasted the fruit yet, but once they do I suspect I will be getting some questions about how to propagate.  ;)

Moonlight, like Martin said it is very similar to Hardy Chicago.  Its a dark fig with a rich flavor.

You did a good thing, Joe!

Suzi

They use that to keep the goats from trampling on the tree until it gets bigger.  Apparently they have some large avocado and loquat trees on the property.  Seems like they know how to care for fruit trees.
