fig tree inventory fall 2014

While you guys are adding, I am reducing, from 230 varieties to about 40(hopefully). This hobby is too addictive and time consuming and is interfering with my travels. Figs are great! A month at Hollywood Beach is greater!

If that's Hollywood Beach FL then we have something in common. Great place.

Love that place, go there every year and I only live 2 hours northwest. I have the month of Nov. at La Playa, real nice condo. I love the 2.5 mile boardwalk to exercise by walking and biking. Us old folks need all the exercise we can get.

When I passed my Florida Realtor license exam I had my celebration dinner at Nick's.

Been there.

Thanks everyone for the kind words.
Willis I sadly agree many of the others won't say what all they have but it would be nice to see whats growing where.  You have a great collection my friend, very well rounded with many rare ones Congratulations.
rafaelissimmo  yes I agree I need a few more on my list care to send them my way:) I know you got some good ones.
Igor, I thought that was the regular celeste, lol I know you got some good ones too. Did you notice the one we have been talking about is missing from the list.
Wayne your collection is very nice also I'd love to help cut back on your inventory for you I'm sure we can get you down to 40 by winter. Why don't you make your inventory public?
I hope everyone is going to inventory there fig varieties this year and share what all they are growing no matter how small or large.

I bet if Wills had a different fig for every time somebody typed Willis it would be the biggest collection ever lol.  Yes I did too. :)

Daniel,
Yes, I noticed.
The Golden Celeste is not the regular one. The color is greenish-yellowish outside, dark red inside, it doesn't drop the figs at all from the year one. It is a work horse, I think the heaviest bearing this year for me.

I feel that making my list public would be create more negative than positive activity, I usually email it on request of hobbyist that I know. I believe Frank, Wills, and Marius have the list.

I have friends that share their list but ask that it not be distributed further which is fine.  Everyone makes the choice to make it public or not and there is no right or wrong.  I also have good friends that I have no idea what they have and that is ok also:)   Some don't want to publicize because they are afraid of being pestered and there are other reasons as well.....it's all good.

@ ediblelandscapingsc

A big (&?) growing fig list indeed - my congrats.

I assume that you are NOT associated with the famous nursery
http://ediblelandscaping.com
from where I acquired some of my first fig specimens (far back in 2002)...

Holy moly!  Thats a lot of figs, both of you!

Nice collections Daniel and Wills! Here is a link to the list I use on a few scion exchanges. It's a bit of a mess, and more than just figs. Hope you enjoy...

gorgi thanks for the kind words, no relation to EL or infringement intended. I try to only plant edibles on my land here is SC and use it to work with the landscape and not against it hints the name. I'm a collector of all fruits that grow in my area not just figs this includes over 20 hardy pomegranate varieties and many many other things not typically grown in the SC/NC area or commercially in the US.
Armando I wish we could grow citrus here I've tried 2 different citrumelos but they was winter killed last year along with a few other plants I had. I'm now trying Yuzu from a source in Cali and I'm growing mandarins from seed from a source near the Potomac River in MD. Hopefully they will do better in our cold winters. I'd love to see your fig list if you don't mind sharing.
Brian thanks for sharing your list, wow you got a lot in just 1 year. I see many good names on your list and I hope it continues at the pace you're headed.
Will, you're right it is all good I wasn't thinking that lol. my bad on calling you willis I suck with names lol.
paully any chance we can see your list too, I can't wait to see what all you have.

Wow .. Nice

Is there some biblical event happening now where everyone is come to the confessional.... .?

I have never kept it secret :)  You just had to ask ...
Also, I have never sold a fig, only trying to give away (for the shipping cost) or trade.
I hope to keep it that way unless will be short on the pocket change to buy a new nice container. All my figs so far are in pots.

rg I had my first 2 fig trees for about 8 years now both from my grandpa's original trees. about 6 years ago I added a BT & Hardy Chicago.  fast forward 2 more years and I acquired cuttings of pop's purple, Celeste, and Castle kennedy and was content or so I thought. in 2012 I really started collecting I lost a few along the way but I'm still very happy with what has survived. So I'd say it took me about 3 years of buying and trading to get where I am.
