I found a way to get rid of some fig tree surpluses and get food in return. I found a veggie farmer that was looking for a cheap source of fig trees on Craig's list. I gave him about 15 of my under 1 year figs trees and 3 of my 2 year olds, about 12 varieties. Do be alarmed I still have over 50 trees from cups to in ground tress. Seems when I buy cuttings I always have 2-3 extra plants to get rid of. I may leave some with him to sell. I gave him a good assortment of white, yellow, brown, purple and black figs to see what will work best for his farm. In exchange I'll pick up free veggie boxes during the summer. I'll help him with the figs and hope he can develop a market in the upscale restaurants here as we have many that use only local produce. He had apparently ate a Panache Fig in an upscale restaurant once and was wigged out when I gave him a tree. I hope he includes some ripe figs in his late summer boxes to introduce fresh figs to people once they start producing. I grow tomatoes and cucumbers only for veggies so some fresh corn, beans and such will be nice!
