Okay. Well, maybe not a tree but a sapling. And maybe not traffic but one vehicle. I was giving my niece a couple of the plants I grew over the winter, one for her house and one for her next door neighbor who has a very pretty garden. As I was taking the plant out of my car a guy stopped and asked me, "Is that a fig?" Why, yes. Yes, it is.
He asked me what I did with mine for the winter because his neighbor digs a hole for his. We only talked a couple of minutes, but my niece made the comment that, "That made your day, didn't it?" And you know what? It really did.
So now I know that at least one more person in Chicago has an in-ground fig tree and that this person goes the extra mile for his winter protection.
Still waiting on consistent warmer weather here to see how the mother plant of my cuttings is doing.
