Fig Trees and Deer

Would anyone know if fig trees are deer resistant? I want to set out a couple more and need to put them in an area that is not protected from the deer.
THANKS

We have NEVER had any trouble with the Deer around here eating or tearing up our fig trees.........And we have plenty of them roaming out near the Fig trees.

I would say go for it!

The deer are so awful here that I quite literally have to chase them out of the orchard.  Soon, I expect they will begin trying to eat the groceries as we take them from the car to the house.

But other than a crazy buck attacking a small bare fig tree last fall (he likely thought it was another buck because of the antler like shape of the branches; I said he was crazy), we have never had deer eating the figs.

I suspect they don't like either the smell of the figs or the latex from the leaves and stems.

You are safe with the figs.

Could be he was trying to make a rub with your fig tree.
We have a lot of whitetail deer here but they have enough woods they don't have to bother us too much.
I hear the dogs barking at night sometime so they probably scare the deer away.
Something was digging around my Celeste and figs were dissapearing but I think it was a possum or coon. No deer tracks.
Dave.

Deer eat the green tips of my fig trees in the winter.  They do not bother the fruit or leaves of my fig trees the rest of the year. My biggest problem is raccoons.  They will strip a tree of figs in a night.  I have a low electric fence around my fig orchard and I set out live traps.

Racoons are a terrible menace.

I would rather have the deer.

And you are probably right Dave.

Best wishes.

John

I talked to a figfriend a few weeks back about an interesting raccoon problem.  Little bastards were stealing his figs and braking branches off the trees!

This proves it: Racoons are pure evil.
