As my family came from Georgia -city called Poti my grandfather always reminds me to visit the country where he came from... he says the figs in georgia were huge and succuluent unlike the ones he tastes nowdays--you know the story (his stories made mme drool).... probably immigrants all over the world eel the same when their grandfather telling them about the old fig trees in their yard before they immigrated.
while searching for the info aout georgian varieits i found a good story about a UC guy that tries to get georgian varieites..

Figs

Elin,

You had me for a second there. Several of us on here reside in the U.S. state of Georgia, and in the first few words I was thinking  where is Poti.  Then it became apparent you were refering to the ex-Soviet block country. Oh well no local treasure for me, but a nice article.  Not the first time I have been confused. A few years ago when I woke and saw on the news the Russians had invaded Georgia I crawled in my basement bunker for 3 months:}

:) nice one, btw my sister used to live in Atlanta Georgia  and she told me alot of ex soviet-georgian immigrants live there.

maybe they brought some cuttings with them you can find on fences and ask around about their origins.

anyhow could be putin was looking for some fig cuttings for himself...

Neat article. I like the one that's closest to the knife.

Figs

Good afternoon. Figs in Georgia actually grow trees, but it is difficult to collect FIG. In my garden there are a few seedlings from the former employee of the Georgian SSR. Varieties are unknown, dark figs. Summer may be the first figs.

I am from Atlanta. That has been my experience also. I ask them if "Georgia was on there mind" (as the eyes roll). Apparently they get asked that a lot here.

Thanks for a nice article, Eli.
A few days ago I was talking to a friend from Armenia. I told her that their an "Armenian" fig variety but I do not have it. She looked quite confused and after a minute asked, which one out 4 dozen armenian varieties you are talking about?
She used to eat figs while growing up but didn't know much beyond that.

Neat article. Thanks. And I had not been to the website before, so now I have it bookmarked.

Great article. Pear-sized green figs with a tiny ostiole and a jammy interior? Harvey C, read this article! And tell us where these figs are at Wolfskill!

I REALLY loved this article!  Amazing that someone could get paid for searching out interesting cultivars in beautiful countries and bringing them back for further evaluation.  I need to look into a career change.  Elin, seize the day - make that trip to Georgia!

you and me both. what a way to live life.

Cool article!

Nice article.  Malli is always a nice guy to talk to.

Thanks for the input . Hopefullly ill find some videos on georgian figs when ill get home.
