Fig trees in my nieghbourhood!!!!

I have felt a bit envious every-time one of our southern members posts pics of fig trees they come across in their travels.
Now not so much. Came across this a block away from where I live.
Nobody was home. Maybe next time.

Is that fig in a pot or in ground?
If you visit again in a few weeks maybe they will let you taste one.

Hi Jim.
It is inground.
That is what is exciting about it.
I'll be walking the dog by there regularily, hoping someone is home to have a chat with.

Yes that is exciting good luck the people have to be nice they like plants

Never did get to meet the owners.
a neighbour said that they are not around much, their children come by once in while to take care of the house.
the figs did not ripen this year

I wonder if they'd respond if you wrote a letter asking if they know the varieties and what they do to protect them in the winter?

belated update.
Went by the house again in late fall
the trees had been dug up and taken inside for winter storage

I'm always too chicken to stop and knock on the door to ask people about their figs.

updating
He digs his trees up and pots them for winter storage and does the fig shuffle in spring until the weather is warm enough to plant them again.
Still have not made contact.
left a letter in his mail box. No reply yet.

i live in south.. i still haven't yet to see a fig tree in my area. i must live where bunch of fig haters live.

everytime i'm driving around the town, my kids ask me "what are you looking at?"

Hey Pete, you have to develop an eye for it.  They are there!  I found 4 all 300 yards from my house!   Two Celeste, 1 BT, one unknown, and one huge English Brown Turkey.

This is true Dennis. A couple years ago never saw any fig trees, cause really didn't know what a fig tree was. Now that I know, seems like there all over the place. Shoot, the guy that lives behind me has a huge tree. Never paid much no mind. Still don't know what type neighbours is yet, but I will find out. My problem is I can't identify them yet, and hope that some day I will. It always amazes me when members will put a picture up and there may be questions, but usually someone will identify.

Ever since I got 'fig fever' I have been spotting fig trees all over Seattle as I drive and walk around.

Grant,

If you ever go to Vancouver, BC you will see 8 out of 10 houses have fig trees in their front yards. Some are really huge. There are fig trees everywhere there.

But as for me, I have seen them all over the Southern part of the US.
My only problem is it isn't easy to find a parking spot for a 72ft. vehicle to park. Otherwise I would be taking all kinds of samples.

updating.
found someone home today,
not the owner but a nieghbour doing some yard work for the owner.
The trees are from Portugal, where the owner is now till end of November.
She said the owners daughter was by a few days ago and got the letter I left, and is pretty sure the owner will be happy to give me a cutting or two.

Hi Rafed, yes if i ever get out to Vancouver, (it is some 2500 miles away from me and 2 or 3 climate zones warmer) i will be taking my snips along.
