In garden I have probably two shrubs of a "Brown Turkey".

Nice work Mariusz, good luck with your fig trees...and welcome to the Fig Forum.

Hi Maris,

Welcome to the forum
How do you manage growing figs in your climate ?

Welcome, Maris!

Everything will be ok. In my climate during winter plants still grow... ;)

But seriously the oldest figs are in my hands from two years. Last year were attacked by spider mites and they didn't grow (two of three are in garden, and grow as a shrubs and the third is a tree with a bottle in the background. ;)

I thought to dug Peretta next year to ground, but I have to see how quickly fruits will be ripe.

Panache will be grown at the window in south side in container.

Warm Welcome Maris!

I am from your western neighbour ;-)

Welcome to the forum

Hi Maris,

Good ! Wish you good luck and lots of Sun to help you grow your nice fig varieties.

Francisco

Welcome! Thanks for sharing with us. Looks like an avocado in a pot too. As a kid growing up, my mother was always trying to grow an avocado. Hers never got any farther than what you have in the picture.

Welcome, Maris!

Welcome to the forum Maris.

Thanks to all for your kind welcome. ;)

@cis4elk, Yeah, this is an avocado it's standing on a balcony from mid april (I don't care a lot about this tree, it just grows), but sun burned a little older leaves which have grown at home.

Today it's good weather, something about 31C (87.8F) and figs are growing well, but I have to wait probably for ripe figs to october. ;)

Or even may be inedible even then. :(

Welcome, Maris. I just returned from a week-long vacation and after Mass tbis morning I was talking to our Pastor about figs. He's from Poland and said nobody grows figs in Poland and I assured him that he was incorrect. :). Do you know of others near you growing figs?

Hmm. I know a friend who grows figs, but in the greenhouse. Some guys grows fig tree in Poland, but this isn't large scale cultivation, I could count on the fingers of one hand. ;) I know that in Denmark people grows fig, in the future, I want to try a special Danish variety. (Danish summers are cooler than in Poland)

But yes, some Poles grows own fig in their gardens.

Maris,

Would you know the Danish variety name?
Maybe it is similar to the Nero 600m

I have never heard about Nero 600m. Danish variety name is Bornholms Diamond, http://www.havlis.cz/karta_en.php?kytkaid=687 Here is a link with a little more information. :D

@aikjogja Polski znasz, to teraz czas odwiedzić PolskÄ™. ;) Hello. :)

Welcome to the forum Maris and good luck with your figs. Several members live in Zone 6 and have figs planted outside. They can be a good source of information as to varieties and techniques they have used to protect their fig trees in winter. Usually they start posting information about winterizing their plants in late summer or early fall.  Lots of useful ideas to try.

Thanks for your tips. Hmmm this year I had a mild winter. (Something like USDA 7 a/b). I would start with Chicago Hardy and Bornholm Diamonds, but i can't find in Polish online shops and a delivery from abroad is often expensive and complicated. (often from the USA). Maybe in the german shops I can found something, but I do not know german well. ;)

New unknown fig tree.

If you ever visit New York City, make sure you go to Greenpoint, Brooklyn, for the excellent Polish food, beautiful neighborhood, and friendly people.
